When UD pays for ....

Hi.
I was wondering if anyone knows what UD pays the players for their Signature?
When UD sends a sticker sheet how much does the player get for each auto on that? How much does UD pay for hard signed cards?

I am wondering this because the value of some Autos are low.
I know the higher stars must get a bigger payment, but what does the common player get?

Any help would be great.

i would imagine this info to be confidential. also, UD doesn't make their money off secondary market sales. they sell their cases to distributors and then they're done.

i'm sure i read somewhere that for the old/early 2000's BAP product players were paid $1 per auto....

but i also read somewhere UD pays as much as $100 per auto for some players....

Autograph sales on the secondary market have very little to do with what the players get paid to sign them. The only way I can see the price effecting secondary sales is if Upper Deck gets a superstar player to sign fewer autographs because their price is so high, which then limits the number of autographs out there and makes them more valuable. For the average player though, I wouldn't be surprised if they get $5 or less for an autograph.

I have exchanged emails with Hersh from Frozen Pond, and when it comes to his sales sometimes the player demands so much for an autograph that the expected sales aren't enough to warrant bringing the guy in. He says that some low-tier players have an "exaggerated" sense of their value and the price-for-return ratio isn't worth it. Mind you, his business depends on resale value but like SkyFire47 said UD doesn't care (to an extent of course) as long as the autographs make it into packs.

It depends also on context. BAP autos are purchased from the NHLPA for a set price. Other autographs are negotiated on a player-by-player basis.

A certain goalie who comes around Brandon,MB in the off season gets 3.00 per auto. So I am guessing that the higher end players make a tad more than that.

The way some/the majority of them sign these days, illegible scribbles, they should not be being paid more than a quarter an autograph at the most!

Too bad there isn't a PDF of the actual contract. I would love to go through that just to see what else might be tucked away in some of the provisions.

Weird this should come up - I had a chance to bump into a former high scoring NHL'er at a recent OHL exhibition game here in Orangeville. He knows I'm a card collector and he was telling me he just had a bunch that he'd returned to UD. I asked him this very question and he said it depends on the player, set, amount of cards, etc, but for him, it's anywhere between $4 to $9 a card. I don't know if there's a difference between the stickers and cards though.

There are a few of the Former Wings who sign for time. They get $10 grand or something to show up and sign for 4 hrs or something. It does vary for public or private. Public they generally sign less as everyone talks for a few minutes. I always wonder if the fact a guy doesn't like to sign creates an artificial demand for it. Darrin McCarty signs everything anyone puts in front of him and TTM, so no one needs to ever buy one....
