Where do you think Hobby will go?

Just wondering how everyone feels about where the hockey hobby will go if Upper Deck is the only company producing cards. With the anoouncment from ITG, I have talked to a lot of friends that feel the hobby will suffer without them.

Your opinions are appreciated.

ill still be in it, just buying a fair bit less of the newer stuff and concentrating on that parkie set that im slowly working on.

aside from the 03-04 UD ice set I will still be working on I migh go for UD series one as well as Penguins cards...will probably wait for Pens swatches before I go for the game used of palffy, Recchi & Leclair...going for GU of those should allow me to get rid of a lot of my trading stock...would certainly consider parallels since they should be in Pens uniforms by Series one UD.
I always been more of a UD collector as far as sets than ITG etc though of course they'll be missed if they are left out. I will miss being able to buy ITG stuff as an opition

I'll be working primarily on my sets and bourque/shanny collections. Should be fun stuff!

Hockey card companies come and go. Odds are that even if UD has the only liscence this year, next year will most likely be a different story. Lets face it, as long as there is ebay, you can always go back a year or two and build a ITG, Pacific or Toops/OPC set if you are not a UD fan. As for this year. I expect the boxes to sell really well. Collectors and wax junkies are starved for new product, and with the great crop of Rookies this year I expect the hobby to be strong. I still hope that ITG, Topps, or Donruss/Playoff get liscence(s), but if UD is the only company with a liscence I still see the hobby doing really well this year. That's my $.02. Mike

People will still buy and trade cards, no matter if Upper Deck is the only game in town. We are addicted and sick individuals in need of help Some of us more than others Do I like the fact that UD could be the only game in town...NO. My main reason is their redemption fiasco's and the lack of anyone who gives a rip there about hockey or the customer. But, they do make some nice cards. Spx is a great product along with Black Diamond. The Young Guns are always a nice set and the higher end products are really nice cards, just sometimes yield a really tough break because of the player selections.

Player collectors will collect, and box rippers will still rip boxes.

I think it's a strange idea to only have one company produce cards when the game is trying to win back fans lost over the last 15 months. Particularly to leave out a Hockey Card company like ITG... Topps and Donruss won't get a license, and from their web page information it looks as if they don't care.

I like UD stuff well enough, but they have a bent toward small sets packed with stars and junk scrap cards.

Can only hope that IF they are the only game in town they produce a nice 700 card set for this season.

I am going old school, pick more sigs and GU of the greats(Orr, Lafleur, Plante, etc) from older BAP products and will still bust but maybe less(I hope )
