Where does Malkin fit in?

Well I am not a Pens fan,, I just pretty much see what goes down with them in the daily highlights package. I know Crosby is still a freak of nature but I havn't heard much about Malkin. Is he in the pens long range plans or will they most likely ship him out sometime down the road??
 
He's certainly dropped off in production. I could see them trading him to a team that needs a #1 center and getting a nice package in return (top winger for Crosby??). There are plenty of teams that would trade for him in a heartbeat. I suspect the idea has crossed the GM's mind a time or two.
 
He is too expensive for the pp to keep if he stays in this funk. Then again, he is arguably a better offensive player than Sid or Ovy. The pens are sitting in first right now, so they have no reason to get rid of him though.

On the other hand, he would return a top winger/dman and then some.

I still defer to my previous statement, the pens are in first, no need for something drastic.
 
I am a Penguins fan and I would rather have a 2nd line center than trading him for a winger. Malkin at one point had a point a game average. Sure he is getting 8 million. But he has hot streaks and cold ones. And it would be foolish to try and break up what the Penguins have right now.
 
I know he is an excellent player but I just wonder what will happen to him down the road. He is a top player who I could see going,,, in the future. Right now like Metrags said they are in first so I don't expect changes at all. I just don't know if Malkin seems like a guy who wants to be on "Crosby's team" for the remainder of his career or if he wants to be someone who wants to be "The Man" on another team

He was a monster when Crosby was hurt in the past. He was also unstoppable in the playoffs the year they won the Cup. Like many elite players, they thrive on being "the" guy.

St. Louis has all the pieces that the Pens would want in return off the top of my head. I would love to see Oshie play with Crosby.

He's also extremely lazy, and showed his lack of interest and commitment to his team after the olympics. At 8 mil a year he isn't worth it, and pitt will have to eat that contract.
 
Right now he is centering their second line which consists of him and two bums essentially - so he is having to carry the load entirely. I mean there aren't many players in the league that are going to scortch up the scoresheets with Cooke and Talbot on the wings.

More than anything this really speaks to what Crosby has been able to do this season - not to take anything away from all the other players out there but his work ethic and determination in the offseason appear to be second to none.

As mentioned above - there is no real need to move him as they are in first place and Malkin is contributing - maybe not the numbers he would like to put up but he's doing OK.
 
If I had to guess it's probably up to Crosby. If he wants him gone he'll be gone if he wants him around he isn't going anywhere.
 
LOL, Jack is not a happy camper. Malkin is not going to solve your defense problems. Maybe you guys need to decide which of those goalies you're hoarding is going to stick and move the rest for a few D-men.
 
Let me set a few things straight here:

1) There is a 0% chance the Pens will trade Malkin.
2) They can afford him no problem as everyone of major importance is locked down.
3) They don't need a winger for Crosby (Check Kunitz' stats)
4) When Staal comes back, the 2nd line will be Staal at center with Malkin and Talbot on the wing.

Wow, first time I can say I'll agree with you 100%! Unless there was some kind of rift between Malkin and Crosby why in the world would you trade someone who won a Conn Smythe just because he wasn't off to a stellar start?!?!? Let people dream though as I'd love to have him on my team also..:)
