Hey guys and gals

I heard on this board that Ryan Stone may have got cut from the Pens? Is this true? Where is going to go then?

I have been a Stone supporter since day 1 of his rookie training camp back in 2003. I thought he showed a lot of potential. Unfortunately, he hasn't shown anything since then. He was called up last year and was very underwhelming. This year in training camp he had a chance again, but was beat out essentially by Paul Bissonette and Bill Thomas. Stone didn't do enough to show that he can hold a bottom 6 position in the NHL.

Stone has already expressed that he hopes he gets claimed off waivers. Bissonette was in a similar situation last year. He went as far as saying he didn't see how he fit into the Pens future plans and told management he wanted a trade.

We'll see if Stone does what Biz did last year....he did whatever it took to make his game more appealing for the Pens. He changed his position from D to Winger and became a fighter/grinder and now he is one of the last players left to make the cut...or he can take the Jonathan Filewich approach and just roll over and die.

Personally, I think Stone's ship has sailed, but if he commits to a more defensive game and tries to improve his fighting skills then he might have a change. The Pens aren't deep at wing so he does stand a chance, but he has to put the effort in.

The Pens had to see something not working for them. Maybe Stone will be one of many to get lost in the AHL

Stone hasn't played very well the past couple of seasons down here in WB. I've noticed that he has become more aggressive, and not in a positive way. Too many goon-like hits against opponents to the point where other teams were always out to get him. He's also had some personal problems where the team offered to get him help.

Hopefully he can get claimed off waivers by someone. Sometimes the best thing for a player is a change of scenery. Whatever happens, I wish him all the best.

Such as getting drunk and naked and then running through neighborhoods?

Actually it was Nathan Smith who was picked up for running around naked. However, Stone was arrested at the same time for public drunkeness, his second such occurance during the season.

Anyhow, he cleared waivers and has reported to the Baby Pens.

Well, our local newspaper had it wrong and then corrected themselves. Stone was not placed on waivers afterall per this.....

"As it turns out, Ryan Stone hasn't cleared waivers after all. Stone said after practice today that some other NHL teams showed interest in him after Pittsburgh announced it was sending him down last week, so the Penguins are apparently now trying to see if there's any market for trading the fourth-year left wing.

Stone said he expects to be traded or put on waivers by Thursday, so Pittsburgh can then set its roster for the start of the NHL season."
