Where is this Mike Bossy piece from?

I've seen several of these cards out already but I have no idea where this Mike Bossy piece is from?

That might be a bit of a stretch.....cant imagine they would use anything but a game used jersey. My guess is Panini mixed up the swatches and put the Tavares on top, although im not familiar with Isles jerseys.......

Right now on ebay there are 3 Bossy items from 2010 Americana, a stamp and relic card. The description on the back says "swatch of an authentic item personally worn/used by Mike Bossy". Similar material as the swatch on the card you show.

Hmm... Kinda an ambiguous description. Unless that is the same description that Panini used for all those cards. To me, that leaves the door open to exactly where the swatch is from.

Nice detective work.....maybe he left his sportcoat behind at an autograph signing and Panini just figured what the heck :devil:

Cost effective I'm guessing. Technically, Panini's claim on the back of the card isn't correct. It's much cheaper to grab a shirt or pants worn by the athlete than a game used jersey or something like that. Theoretically, that could be the polo shirt Bossy wore for Panini while signing autographs for those Americana sets but we might never know

I mentioned this somewhere previously, but this isn't a foreign concept. Topps does this too. They originally started their UFC sets with actual walkout gear but by the time they got to sets like Finest 2011, you started seeing weird materials (like running shirts) appearing in their sets. By 2012 Finest/Bloodlines, you could see weird patterns in some of the shirts and eventually, some of us realized that they were likely having the fights wear Topps t-shirts while they signed autographs for them and that was the "fighter worn material" on the cards. Could even be availability. Panini didn't have an NHL License when that Americana set came out and probably didn't have any need to source out actual game used jerseys thinking they may not even have a licensed product to ever apply the NHL jerseys too. They did a pretty good job of sourcing out NHL Game Used stuff when they did have a license so perhaps they thought it wasn't worth the money for one set.

By the way, I'm not here to discuss whether this trend is right/wrong...just stating that the claims on the back of the card technically aren't incorrect and that in this case, you guys are probably right on the nose on where the material is from.
