Was just pondering the other day, on if the cash was availible which rookie/99 would i buy from 05-06 the cup.Phaneuf being an alright option, and more readily availible;think i would still go with an ovechkin. The ovie is still priced in this stratosphere. The crosby being the mecca of cup rcs..not to sure how his concussion issues will pan out. Even if he doesn't play again still an amazing card and investment. Anywho i think if the cash was in hand, would look for a 1or2 colour ovechkin. Please post your pick and why. If your one of the lucky collectors that has one of these gems, please feel free to show it off! Cheers folks...

there's an archive online displaying pretty much everything that's been know to have been pulled so far.

Its a crosby 3 color. Make sure the patch isnt fake. Inspect corners and surface. If everything checks out then buy it.

Just curious if any of you have any idea what a nice 3 color Crosby Cup RC is worth right now? If Jason is looking at buying a 1 or 2 color Ovechkin then try 8x that price for a 3 color Crosby. Also, good luck finding one for sale!

I haven't seen many 1 color Ovechkin Cup RCs. If his Caps lose to Tampa Bay this round then I bet you could get one on ebay for a decent price (by his standards). These cards show up at a rate of about 1 every two months on ebay.

Matt.

To be honest. I think it all depends on the setting of the sale. Ebay, local show, forum,Expo.

Despite his health problems It seems people are keeping his stuff. I usually see a few Crosby Cup ARP's at the expo. I didnt see a single one for sale.

If someone had a 3 color Crosby at the show last night I beleive it would have went for $11,000-$13,000. Only because it would be the only one at the show and people come with tons of money.

On Ebay the card would most likely touch $8,000-$10,000. This is mostly because the card isnt in hand and cannot be inspected 100% by the buyer. Security is a huge factor. Its why cards always go for more at shows.

As for Ovie he is a different breed. His stuff is numbered the same as Crosby almost everywhere. Yet in my opinion his nicer stuff (CUP,ICE,Ultimate) is so much harder to find. Ive seen TONS of Crosby Cup,Ice and Ultimate. I VERY rarely see the Ovechkin counterpart.

I think the best time for buying hockey is Summer time. I think you could snatch a nice Ovechkin 3 colour Cup ARP for $4,000-$6,000. A raw one though. Not graded.

I'd say this is a really good question. I would be completely torn in half between Crosby and.. Thomas Vanek. AO would be a heck of a grab, and I'd love to have one, but he would be #3 in line for me. Ovechkin just wouldn't have as much personal meaning to me..

Vanek because I had almost zero luck pulling any of his stuff in his rookie year (and he plays for the home team), and Crosby because it's one of the only high-end RCs of Sid I DIDN'T pull that year..

Interesting take on pricing! Unfortunately it's not very accurate. The only reason I brought this up is because iI was under the impression that 90% of collectors aren't aware what these cards are worth (well, the Crosby in particular!).

You've drastically under-valued Crosby and slightly over-valued Ovechkin. Try doubling your ebay price for a 3 color Crosby! I'm not kidding. As for Ovechkin, a nice raw 3 color can easily be had for $3100. That has been the going rate since last November.

Very good points guys, thanks!. Matt your totally spot on with the way the pricing goes on the sid and ovie. I was just stating; in the event that the cash was availible i would hunt down an ovie for sure. JayKayZee i have had 3 diff vaneks(all 3+ colours), and to this day don't know why i got rid of them.Maybe someday i can make a cash-card deal for an ovie. Matt your right about them popping up one every once in awhile on feebay. I have noticed alot of ovies, and toews cup rcs, surfacing in Quebec;which i dont know if thats a good or bad thing..

I agree with Matt.

A 3 color Crosby could have fetched as high as $20K at Expo. There was some serious dough walking around the show.

I personally witnessed two deals with cash in excess of $10K transferring hands. And then I saw over $20K cash change hands. AWESOME!

With respect to Ovechkin, for the right patch, there are willing buyers at $10K.

Thanks for the honest opinion. As many know I do deal in high end. But not "that" high end. So my knowledge is very limited. Being 23 and just starting a career doesnt allow me to deal in the over the top stuff.

Reading you're post it makes sense. Jeremy also giving his input only puts any doubts to bed.

In time I will learn more about and eventually own these type of caliber cards.

I do my best to keep up with Stephen and Ryan. But its hard.

I was one of the lucky - so here I am showing off...

I was living in Billings, MT at the time of release and the local shop was getting in two tins for his allotment from UD. There were only two hockey buyers in town so me and the other party each had one reserved (at $400 per...nuts now to think about). The day of delivery came and the other guys decided that he would be better off saving the money and would give it to me if I was interested, I was.

Now there is no way of knowing who would have gotten what tin but I am pretty dang happy that I got both looking back. Have had this bad boy in my collection ever since and, to answer the original question, I can't imagine anyone wanting any card other than this one (unless it is a hardcore player collector - then all bets are off!).

Thanks for the look!
