Which One Would You Rather Have

Deciding between these two Hall RC's. Both are graded, but after looking at the scans which would you choose if both cards were the exact same price? No back scan available for the top card, but it is centered on the back.

I am assuming that the bottom card is graded lower due to the fact that you cut off the grades and wouldn't have asked this question otherwise (maybe?). It looks like the bottom is the nicer of the two, but without seeing them in person, there may be some creases that you cannot see through scans. Grading doesn't take into account eye-appeal, so oftentimes a lower graded card can sell for more due to that. Good luck with the purchase!!

I didn't put the grades in yet as there are many graded collectors biased towards one company or another. It's still pretty easy to tell who graded which card though, one is graded a 6, the other a 6.5.

Hard to say without having them in hand. From the scan the bottom one looks better, a lot less foxing where the bottom one is a lot more white.

That makes sense. I am having a hard time telling if that second picture has been lightened. If so, there may be some hidden surprises. To be honest it doesn't look like there is any way possible that the top one gets a 6. If that is a 6, I am going to have to reconsider the company I am using for my 51 Parkies since I would get so much more value out of those loose grades.

The top is a PSA 6, bottom is a KSA 6.5.

They are obviously scanned on different settings. The colors are bright and vivid on the top one and the bottom one has flat colors.

You would have to see the bottom up close like the top but I would perfer psa grades over ksa generally.

99 times out of 100, I'd take a PSA 6 over a KSA 6.5. In this case, the bottom one looks nicer, but as others have noted, it was probably scanned on a more favourable setting, and without having them both in hand, side by side, you'll never know for sure which one is actually nicer.

they buth seam a little offset, one to the right, the other to the left. The factor is, if they are rated that close, the back's alignment. Would like to see if the top's reverse side in the same image format. If the alignment is not consistant with the front, like the bottom card, i'd say choose the bottom.
In hand is the best review process.
Are the costs similar?

Out of curiosity...those of you that want the PSA 6 over the KSA 6.5, is that based solely on the higher value that the PSA would pull due to them being the more well known and respected company?

Normally I would go with the PSA card, in this case I went with the KSA and am happy with the decision. The seller of the PSA could not provide any additional scans, and when asked specific questions on the card, the reply was "look at the picture". The KSA seller gave me all the information I needed quickly, so I ended up buying it for $42 less then the PSA single.

I think that is a good decision. Looking back, it is interesting how many voted for the KSA until you posted the company names and then all of a sudden many began voting for the PSA. I think sometimes some people (I am not saying only the people that voted for the PSA) put too much faith in a particular grading company (I do that for SGC) and rely less on their eyes. I bought a 51 Parkhurst PSA 6 Laprade RC and sent it in to SGC to get crossed over to their slab and they wouldn't grade it as high. I also sent in a BVG 6 that came back a 5 from sgc. It goes to show you how subjective grading is and that there can be a grade or two difference depending on the person looking at it.

There is certainly loyalty to PSA as they are/were the most well known and trusted company for a long time. However, there have been too many "mistakes" by PSA that I think many have fallen off the bandwagon.

SGC is in my opinion the toughest company when it comes to grading vintage, meaning they really scrutinize each card and you can end up with a lower grade then expected. That tells me they are taking the time to really evaluate all aspects of the card and giving you the most true grade out there. It's interesting to look at completed auctions, and the trend to me looks like higher graded vintage cards by SGC will usually outsell PSA or BVG.

PSA is the leader (IMO) for vintage grading. The resale value certainly comes into play.

I have seen first hand KSA in action... They do not get recognition from the industry and for the right reasons. Although that card certainly looks great, I would pop it out of that slab and have PSA grade it.

I am proud to say that our store will not sell KSA graded cards.

Nothing wrong with doing a crossover with the KSA card. My point is that so many people said they would take the PSA card, however the KSA card looks nicer in the pictures. I think many meant they would choose PSA over KSA for value, but like you said, you can crack the holder and have it graded by another company if you decide that is important.

Rather buy the KSA card...IMO
