I’ve seen people say a few times that 15-16 Upper Deck was printed in higher quantities than 05-06 Upper Deck when discussing McDavid vs. Crosby’s Young Guns cards values.

How do we know this? Is this just a standard thing that sets are being printed in greater quantities now? Was it something about those particular years?

I’m curious to know the reasons.

10-11, 11-12, 13-14, 14-15 are the ones I'm pretty sure are those that had UD2 in lower quantities... In particular 10-11 and 14-15 - those ones you just don't find unopened at all anymore. 14-15 UD2 Hobby was loaded and blew right through in a hurry... then you add RCs of Pastrnak, Binnington, Vasilevsky, Drouin and Horvat. My understanding was that UD2 was basically half the production of UD1.

10-11 was similar since really it was Seguin only and wax went through quickly due to the reduced print run and the popularity of the 20th anniversary parallels

13-14 originally didn't fare well since most of the best YGs were in Series 1 with MacKinnon, Tarasenko being the most sought. Series 2 wasn't as popular, but really picked up steam particularly with Kucherov

Generally UD2 was made more to order vs UD1. Most of the time, UD1 would have the big YGs unless they could spread it out better, plus the added hype of being always ready for the start of the Fall Expo and the anticipation of the first RCs of the new rookies

06-07 and 07-08 with Malkin and Toews respectively are reasonably difficult to come by

And we're pretty sure 2005-06 Series 1 was produced in low quantities because no one was sure if the hobby would bounce back from the lockout.
