Who Gets Multiple Player Cards In A Group Break

I have not been involved in any group breaks and wonder how a card of multiple players or a card of a player who has played for multiple teams is given to the group participants.

If a cup card that features say, Yzerman, Messier, Sakic, and Gretzky is pulled who gets it ? What happens if they are all in Team Canada jerseys.
What happens if a Gretzky card has an Edmonton, L.A, and New York patch, who gets it and why.I know that the odds of this are slim but when it comes to high end products like the Cup there are many cards that have multiple players. I know I would not be happy if a auto of Gretzky, Yzerman, and Lemieux was pulled and I lost it because Gretzky in a Edmonton Jersey was given to someone because he was the first player on the card.

I know many members are involved in group breaks, I just would like to know how these situations are resolved.

I don't get involved in group breaks - but from my understanding multiple teamed card are randomly given to one of the teams on the card. 50/50 for a dual, 33/33/33 for a triple, etc.

I'm NOT sure how Team Canada (US/Russia/etc) cards are dealt with.

In the case of a triple or quad I would sure hate to see 2 or 3 guys get shut out. I would rather see a more equitable way of doing it but if the rules are set before the break starts that's the way it goes I guess

I've never been in one. I understand why people do it but I'd rather be greedy and get ALL the cards rather than hope I draw the team that represents the best card.

Every group break I have been in, multiple player cards are randomized, never just given based on which player on the card is "first". Examples:

- If a Gretzky (EDM) / Howe (DET) is pulled, the winner of the card is randomized between EDM and DET.
- If a Gretzky (EDM) / Gretzky (LAK) is pulled, the winner of the card is randomized between EDM and LAK.

In the situation of Team Canada cards, every break I have been involved in has randomized that card between all 30 teams. Example, if the card features Crosby as a representative of Team Canada, even though he has only played for the Penguins, the owner of the PIT cards does NOT automatically get it. Instead everyone is in contention for that card.

And if you are wondering about displaced teams, those cards for vintage teams should go to the owner of that franchise, not the city. For example, a Dino Ciccarelli Minnesota North Stars card is pulled, that goes to the owner of the Dallas Stars - since that's where the team relocated to. The card would not go to the owner of the Minnesota Wild.

Best way to learn about group breaks is to go and watch them on blog tv. There are usually a couple of group breaks each and every night and they are always quite fun to participate in and watch. As far as randoms go, they have been explained in this thread already, but there is also the extremely rare case when the random involves two super high end guys such as lemieux and gretzky in which the card will be split between the two players with the team instead of being randomized so the other person gets shut out.

In most instances however, the card is randomized between the teams on the card. In the case a that both teams in a multiple card were taken out in a group break, then that card gets randomized to everyone that participated in the group break.

Sometimes when a super high end card is pulled both parties will agree to sell the card and spilt the profits. This way neither of them is completely shut out.

Thats why you dont join ebay GB's. Or any other person who doesnt break live on a site. you only join gb's live on blogtv. That way the breaker is chatting and you see what is pulled.

Wayne - we do a fair number of them on Trade Nights/Days and have also done Dominion and Certified group breaks at the Windsor Show. Plus, the Ontario Tallgrass Lucky 13 group breaks are held at our store.

We do make it known prior to the break that the player listed first (top to bottom / Left to right) is the winner if multiple players exist on a card. If a card contains a player that is not associated to an NHL team (National Team, JR. uniform, maybe it's a ref or governor, etc...), then a separate draw is held where all participants have a chance at the card.

With the exception of the Lucky 13 group break (30 spots available), we run ours where only 6 participants take place and there is a lottery for position and then there is a snake draft between those 6 participants so each end up with 5 teams - so the only multiples we have had were never an issue as the same person had both affected teams... Lucky I guess.
