Who has the craziest collectors?

It was only one card but I got outbid on a Pascal Leclair ultra uniformity patch that went for over $100 (the only other guy to close in that ammount in the set is Ovie). I was needless to say shocked.

I would say say ovechkin cup rookie /99. Between Lee and Mark, I think they have half the production run and probably more on the way.

Browsing the bay, I found some ridiculous (at least to me) prices on a good number of Jason Spezza pieces. Granted, they're redemptions from 06/07 that are finally showing up, but still pretty high.

That got me thinking: which player(s) has the most rabid and competitive collectors?

I'm sure we'll hear from the Gabby Mafia a few times :)

GABBY... and we have a few of those nuts here...lol...

I resemble that remark!

Linden collectors are amongst the craziest ones out there...Kev, Victor and Brett included. Don't believe me?

$78 for a Triple Jersey

$30+ for a Titanium Stick

A little while back, I saw one of those Triple Patch cards from this year's SPGU sell for well over $100 US on eBay...the patches were nice, yes, but you could get some of the bigger dogs from that set for that price.

You gotta show some love for the Wendel Clark collectors too

I don't think any of us (Victor, Kevin or myself) were responsible for the $78 triple jersey (and yes, that was CRAZY!), but I've seen countless examples of his cards going for some extreme prices. I had to turn down an UD Black dual patch /5 at the recent Calgary show because the price was just a little more than I was looking to pay. I almost bit though.

Andrei Kostitsyn has a pretty good following....I guess it depends the time of day the auctions are ending, as I can pick up one card one week for very low and the next week, the same card has tripled....i.e. his HABS Centennial GU, it goes anywhere from $4.00 to $25.00....

And if anybody has one, please let me know.

Tell me about it. On games where AK46 scores a goal or two, his cards start to shoot up in price. It's just too bad he hasn't scored since Feb 21.

Another guy I am amazed has any kind of following at all is Andrew Raycroft. I had NO problem selling his rookie review patch for almost $40 not too long ago with multiple bids. It was nuts. When I pulled it I thought "Great, I get a case hit and it's of the worst goalie in the NHL"

Of of the oldies you have the obvious guy's like Howe and Orr. Guy's like Gretzky, Lemieux and Roy have to be some of the hottest of more recently retired guy's, and contemporary players like Price, Ovechkin and Crosby would have to be the top three.

I'm one of those crazy Clark collectors. Here is my bucket of glory. haha http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa273/pooster17/

Hello.

Koivu and Selanne folk....please step forward and take a bow ;)

Cheers,
Eli:beer:

Thank you, thank you. Yes, I'll admit to having an unhealthy obsession with pursuing Teemu, now up to 732 cards.

For players though, the harshest die-hards are by far the Felix Potvin collectors. The guy was an average goalie at best, only having three 30+win seasons, 266 wins for his career and a record barely over .500

In terms of teams, I'd say Leafs fans are more nuts than Habs fans. you're more likely to see a Toronto fan pick up a card of a former player than a MTL'er.

But by far the craziest collectors are the diehard ITG collectors. Brian Price is the Paul Heyman of the card world and the ITG maniacs will chug down every drop of his Cool-Aid, even the abysmal fighting set.

Colton Orr collectors can be pretty nuts. Back when eBay let you know who won auctions I would always be outbid on Orr parallels by mnmfunsize (or something like that). Upper deck exclusives and OPC blacks going for $10-15, HG's for over $40 was common, and this one that I had never seen a copy of before that I had to pay an arm and a leg for (an arm and a leg for me at least)... Link.

Besides the usual(Gretzky and Orr)I'd say European stars as well. Kolzig fans have some serious bidding wars as does Peter Bondra collectors
