Some on and off discussion about the creation of a comic specific forum, so trying to gauge the interest (casual or otherwise) in a forum dedicated to comics. Potentially the usual buy/sell stuff as well as a place to discuss current storylines, new titles etc. Curious to hear other's thoughts on the topic, basically who from our audience is interested in / collects comics and would you like a place to discuss?

I can start out myself - I haven't collected comics in about 6-7 years, but it was definately my major collection for a number of years, I've easily got about 4000 books in my storage room, a tonne of TPB's, and a fairly large collection of statues and mini-busts. My collection focussed on all of the X-Titles as well as a lot of the Wildstorm titles (Stormwatch and Authority as well as others), I also collected Avengers and Batman for a while, and was a sucker for the major cross title storyline type epics.

I haven't bought/read anything in quite a while, but I must admit I'm constantly tempted (storage space is certainly a limiting factor) and would love to hear about the current storyline trends, popular titles etc.

That's all for me, now everyone else's turn to chime in!

LOOONG time comic collector. Off and on till about age 20, and without interruption since. Devoted fan of Vasquez, Ennis and Ellis, sometime fan of Bendis. Loeb too, come to think of it.

And Foglio is da bomb. Buck Godot and Girl Genius are works of brilliance.

Did a bunch in Junior High...don't think they're worth too much..
Mostly marvel X-men, Uncanny X-men, F4, bunch of others...
do they sell well? Ive been trying to find a place that I could get a little money back for them

Met my wife when she owned a comic book/card shop. I knew more about the cards but I dabbled in comics. Though I liked the odd ball stuff like the Crow, Lobo, and other strange things...

I am a total comic fan boy. Currently my monthly reading consists of:

- Amazing Spider-Man
- Ultimate Spider-Man
- Punisher: Max
- Daredevil (best series currently running)
- X-Men
- Astonishing X-Men
- Batman: Detective Comics

I like to pick up a lot of mini-series (i.e. World War Hulk, Civil War, etc) as they come out. My favoruite writers are easily Brubaker (Daredevil, Captain America, Iron Fist) and Bendis (Ultimate Spidey, Powers). Dini, Ennis, Straczynski, and Johns are good too.

I've been pimping Daredevil to my buddies for a while and I think I got 1 hooked now. Honestly, bottom line is if you read it you will love it. No question, whether you are a comic fan or not this series will blow you away. If anyone wants to know more specifics as to why I could PM you about it but I HAVE to pimp this book.... its too good NOT to be read.

Anyways, comics are my first love and I am ALL for a big comics forum. I realllllly want a nice barrage of people there too.

But of course, comics are my #1 collectable. It would be awesome to have comics and cards both on my favorite site.....bring it on. I think a comic forum would get more traffic then half the other forums on here. Maverick*sports would also be a key contributor. I would be able to bring in a few other members if we got a comic forum.

Dredjaw, looks like you have some great opinons and read some great titles. DD is one of the best comics available right now. I am also a big fan of "The walking dead" if you haven't tried it I suggest picking up the first trade AWESOME!! I collect the usual stuff, Spiderman, Batman (my favorite), Usagi Yojimbo, Conan, Detective, Ult Spiderman, ETC..

Another couple great trades to try is Maus, & the Bone series. These are fantastic reading material. I have a comic site (trade page set up however it needs to be updated here is the link http://www.freewebs.com/archieandthegang/archieandthegang.htm

Comics offer a ton of reason to collect. Great art, fantastic stories, alot of movies are now made from comics. One of the most popular parts of comics is the new CGC signature series, this will probably peak the interest of card collectors. As a collector its cool to get autographs of legends like Stan Lee, John Byrne (tough to get), Neal Adams etc...

Here is a Frank Cho and Bendis signature series. I love the cover to this book.

Bought that one and a few others from a Dealer in Toronto. I have some nice others....if we get a comic forum I have a ton of REALLY COOL stuff I will showoff. I also will have a ton of stuff available to trade (or sell if someone needs some stuff to start with). I have a big comic collection including statues, mini-bust, Original artwork etc.

BTW comics are like soap opera shows, no one ever really dies haha. The silver is one of comics most popular characters he will still be around.

I have alot, I want to sell them but they probably aren't worth too much. Maybe one day I will go though the tedious task of listing them all.

Some notables I can remember:
Amazing Spiderman - Origin of Carnage (not sure the number).
Spiderman #1 (McFarlane?) cover regular and black.
Bunch of Onslaught stuff
Xmen #25
Xmen Omega, Alpha

Used to be huge into comics back in high school and college. After Image started and they decided to produce books when they felt like it instead of monthly like Marvel made them, I just stopped buying. It was frustrating getting issue #1 in March, and #2 didn't come out until November.

I think the only ones I have with me now are Spawn #1-150. Although, I bought that as a huge lot on ebay recently. I really only wanted the ones Todd did. I sold most everything else. Although I do have a bunch of decent valued stuff back at my parents. Older Marvel stuff with first appearances of Wolverine, Punisher, and other miscellaneous stuff.

Still a huge McFarlane, Jim Lee, Dale Keown, Whilce Portacio, and Marc Silvestri fan. Just wish Todd was still pencilling.

I did get some stuff while at a comic shop last month. I got the entire Civil War mini-series. Thought it would be an interesting read. I thought wrong. But it wasn't a total waste. I bought the Batman: Hush TPB while I was there to revel in Jim Lee and Scott Williams work once more. Probably the best money I've spent on comics in a long, long time. Great story, great art, and a great buy.

Chris, the high # Spawns fetch the most money, the low #'s were over produced. Keep the 1-50 and sell the high #'s.

I got them all for less than cover price. Thought it was a steal. I think $100 for the entire lot, including all 6 versions of #100.

I'm thinkin' about dumping all the non-McFarlane drawn ones. Not a big Capullo fan...or the other guys that took it over.

I own Spawn #1-130 and then stopped... the story was just brutal. Honestly, Spawn was at its best from 1-70ish... after that totally downhill.

And Chris, I agree with you about Hush. Fantastic storyline and art. If you want to get into more Batman trades, these are highly popular (and awesome reads): Year One, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Death in the Family (Joker kills Jason Todd, Robin, with a crowbar), etc.

If anyone is interested I made a Batman continuity for trade paperbacks. It has all the important trade paperbacks in ORDER of how they should be read.... starting with Batman Year One and moving forward. If your new to Batman, you could spend about $200 buying these trades on amazon, reading them in the order I tell you too and bang, you'll be caught up with the major events.

I've owned the Death in the Family TPB twice...haha. I sold the first one I had, and then had to get another one when I needed something to read.

Another TPB I read alot is Spiderman vs. Venom (McFarlane), so I won't be tempted to open up and read the issues I had. Also have the Death of Superman TPB...it was a good read till they came out with the "It's Reigning Supermen" crappy storyline.

I'll have to go through my stuff the next time I go back home. I think I still have every Uncanny X-Men and X-Men that Jim Lee did (including all 456 different #1 covers...haha), and every McFarlane Amazing & regular Spider-Man (with all 526 Spidey #1 covers...haha). I had all Liefeld's stuff for a while, but when I got annoyed with his horrible disproportionate drawings, I had to get rid of it. It gave me headaches.

I really like Sam Keith's Maxx and Dale Keown's Pitt & Hulk as well. Couldn't stand Erik Larson or Mark Bagley though. They forced me out of Spidey when they took over.

Mark Bagley just left Ultimate Spider-Man after penciling #1 through to 110. I was really dissapointed. He's got some fantastic art. Ever see that Ultimate Spidey stuff? Man some great panels:

Try Superman "Redson". Its a DC elseworlds tale and it tells the story of if Superman landing in Russia instead of the USA. Awesome story.

I think I'll be buying a Leafs jersey and memorabilia the same day I start chasing Bagley stuff. After being spoiled with some of the most talented artists to hit the industry at the same time, I was left with guys like Bagley and less memorable artists when Image was formed. I don't think I'll ever be able to like Bagley's stuff. Wasn't he some contest winner also? He didn't really work his way up into the books did he? Maybe his later stuff is better than his first few years.

Also couldn't stand the poor storylines that followed like Carnage (Venom rip-off) or his "kids". I was expecting a new X-Men villian like Metal-Stick-O instead of Magneto next. I wished my comic shop had same day refunds after I bought those.

I was really psyched when I heard about Civil War, but I thought the actual Civil War comic just tailed off and got weaker with every issue. Maybe I'll find a reason to hit a comic shop once a month again, but so far nothing's really caught my eye like it did 10 or 15 years ago.

Thats all you need. Scott, newfiecomics, just agreed Daredevil is one of the best comics out right now. It's writer, Brubaker, is becoming the new Bendis in the Marvel universe. Critically acclaimed, just becoming huge. He's fantastic. Give that website a spin. Ironically, issue #100 comes out TODAY. Go buy it!

Right now the hottest comics is all the old Bronze age Neal Adams Batman, Detective, Tomahawk and Green lanter #76 issues. These in high grade are reaching record highs and collectors are going crazy after them. Wonder woman 199, 200 and 201 are also extremly hot. Bronze age comics kick the snot out of new modern stuff.

However you will not be disapointed with modern DD. It is a fantastic comic and I agree that Brubaker is fantastic.
