Let me start by saying that as a collector, I like to go either full-bore or not at all. I can't half-heartedly collect a player or a set. I either have to want them all or just leave it alone.

That being said, is there a player you wish you could collect seriously but just don't have the funds to go after?

If I had the bankroll, I would go after Ovechkin. The more and more I watch this guy, I can't help but love what I watch. He has personality, charisma, talent, and grit. Everything you could possibly want in a player, Alex has it.

So who would you guys (and gals) collect if you had the funds to do so?

Well besides the obvious Gretzky, Crosby, Ovechkin whom i would love to collect seriously.

My Number one would have to be Bobby Orr. Not only because I'm a Bruins fan, but his grit and determination throughout his career is very inspiring to me anyways.

Great topic by the way!!!

Bobby Orr

Would like to resurrect my Ray Bourque and Dave Keon PCs and maybe start some vintage goalie PCs like Vachon, Esposito or Hall

But I agree full bore or not at all - don't like to do anything half a$$ed

I was planning on starting a new player collection of Jonathan Toews after he was drafted (since he is CHIcago BlackHAWKs #19), but I gave up on that when I saw how much his pre-RC ITG stuff was selling for. I knew I wouldn't be able to afford a complete collection of his cards.

Close race between Jean Beliveau and Carey Price.. both have expensive cards, and I try to pick off as many as possible..

When I re-entered the hobby a couple of years ago as an adult, I started collecting Joe Thornton primarily, because I collect former Soo Greyhounds (only those I saw play, so no Gretzky) and Thornton is by far the best Greyhound I ever saw play. But I found he was in so much stuff and was pretty heavily collected, and back then I wanted everything of his so I unloaded what I had collected to that point. Now I'm learning to pick and choose what type of cards I collect for my player collections and my Habs' collection.

But... if I could pick 1 player and go after everything, it would be Joe Thornton.
