who will win the Vezina Trophy

I am wondering who do you guys think will win this great award? there is 4 goalies I can think of off my head. I will say who I have as my top vote after a few posts.
 
for me, it's really a 2 horse race between Quick and Lundqvist but its Lundqvist all the way imo.

while i can see why alot of people would choose Quick, in my eyes, Lundqvist was hands down much steadier all season long with exception to March. Quick on the other hand was slightly behind Lundqvist all season long but really picked it up at the end. from a stats point of view, Quick actually catches up to Lundqvist but that's only after a slight dropoff by Lundqvist and insane play by Quick at the end. the fact that Quick had to play out of his mind to catch up to a slightly declining Lundqvist at the end tells me Lundqvist was pretty much ahead all along.

other points:

Quick - almost lead LA to a Pacific Division title
Lundqvist - almost lead NYR to a Presidents Trophy (did lead to Atlantic and Eastern Conference titles though)

Quick - no goal support
Lundqvist - nominated for Vezina 3x and this point never worked for him. he suddenly has goal support and it works against him AND the "no goal support" notion suddenly works in favor for someone?


honorable mentionns - smith, rinne, fleury, howard
 
Look at the teams each goalie plays against, and it isnt as close a race as the stats say.

The Rags play in the strongest division in the game, and have been carried for years by their goalie. But their team wasn't nearly good enough to warrant a Vezina choice. LA, or rather Quick, is in that boat now. He is 100% a future Vezina winner, but the voters are pretty biased.

I am all for 'less than spectacular' team having MVP's, Norris, or Vezina winners, but that isnt how the league works... However, I dont think Lundy needs a technicality like his team being better in order to win it. He outright wins by himself, heck, I wouldnt be surprised if Lundy even gets a Hart nomination this year.


Which leads to another question, any chance a goalie wins the Hart, but not the Vezina???? Just wondering how that would transpire...

The Rangers had goal support this season? When? They were 8th in the conference this year in scoring and the powerplay was dreadful. Lundqvist carried that team on his back through all the tough times.
 
A case could be made for any one of Lundy, Quick or Smith, and if any one of them wins, it would be well deserved. Rinne's stats are too close to Kipper's and Niemi's (must be a Finnish thing) to say that he deserves it more than either of those two.

Looking back over the past 25 seasons the NHL has certainly awarded the Vezina to goalies who had outstanding seasons for weak teams, see Beezer in 85/86 (team was 36-38), Hasek in 93/94 and 94/95, Carey in 95/96 and Theodore in 99/00. I would agree that when 2, or more, goaltenders have had great years the team's standing should be considered. So this year the clear choice is Lundqvist.

They arent a goal scoring team, so 8th in goals is pretty good (I think we were 8th last year as well). The difference this year is that when the Rags needed a goal, we got it.

We had players we could rely on game in and game out to produce. By the way, Gabby played in all 82 games this year, who could have predicted that? And he quietly placed 3rd in goal scoring. Anyone besides Rangers fans know that?

Not arguing that Lundy didnt carry the team, but the Rags played much better as a team this year than in years past.

All good points. I can only hope this season was the start of something good for years to come. Lundqvist is a very popular player, his strong work ethic and his community projects won't hurt his Vezina chances.
