Who will your team lose?

jamie oleksiak for dallas. I can't really see them wanting anyone else... I mean there's ben bishop, but he hasn't played in almost 2 seasons.

Ok, now that the expansion draft is done, opinions? I’ll go ahead and start the party with my no holds barred hot take:

Unless there are some insane side deals to be announced, this is the most pathetic NHL roster ever assembled and leaves no doubt why Ronnie Franchise was kicked out the door in Carolina.

Yeah, that wasn't very eventful at all. They kept it pretty safe, no real gamble of guys like Max Domi, or any deal with Tarasenko ... i'm also shocked they didn't take price.

Anyway, I guess they're competing for the most boring team on the west coast! Will be quite the battle with the Canucks, Sharks, Kings and Ducks! haha

yeah...there better be some side deals announced, otherwise Seattle drafted a dud of a roster.

The ones that I have the biggest questions with are:

McCann over Kerfoot
Soucey over Kahkonen
Tawarynski over Gostibehere/JVR/Voracek
Geekie over Bean
MacDermid over Clague
Jarnkrok over Duchene/Johansen

I really am unsure of the strong early commitment to Driedger. After seeing the unprotected list, getting Price, Kahkonen, and Vacenek would be pretty decent. But it got announced pretty early that Seattle was taking Driedger.

Biggest surprise was the Philly pick. I can see Dunn over Tarasenko: there's your power play quarterback for the next 6 years. Complete list (sorry for the formatting)

Anaheim Ducks Haydn Fleury D $1.3M
Arizona Coyotes Tyler Pitlick RW $1.75M
Boston Bruins Jeremy Lauzon D $850K
Buffalo Sabres Will Borgen D RFA
Calgary Flames Mark Giordano D $6.75M
Carolina Hurricanes Morgan Geekie C/W RFA
Chicago Blackhawks John Quenneville LW $750K
Colorado Avalanche Joonas Donskoi RW $3.9M
Columbus Blue Jackets Gavin Bayreuther D UFA
Dallas Stars Jamie Oleksiak D UFA
Detroit Red Wings Dennis Cholowski D $894K
Edmonton Oilers Adam Larsson D UFA
Florida Panthers Chris Driedger G UFA
Los Angeles Kings Kurtis MacDermid D $875K
Minnesota Wild Carson Soucy D $2.75M
Montreal Canadiens Cale Fleury D RFA
Nashville Predators Calle Jarnkrok C/W $2M
New Jersey Devils Nathan Bastian RW $825K
New York Islanders Jordan Eberle RW $5.5M
New York Rangers Colin Blackwell C/W $725K
Ottawa Senators Joey Daccord G $750K

I woke up yesterday excited that it was finally the Seattle Kraken expansion draft day, and after seeing the teams picks, I just want to really wake up from this nightmare. I am so disappointed with over half of there selections. Ron Francis could have put together a very competitive team that would have made it to the playoffs this next season easily. Hope it was worth being the bottom team in the Pacific division for the next three years. I guess Francis is already planning to draft Shane Wright next year with the first overall pick.

I am still trying to rap my head around his picks. I don't understand why pick up these players:

Arizona Coyotes Tyler Pitlick - Christian Fischer was available
Buffalo Sabres Will Borgen - Cody Eakin was available
Carolina Hurricanes Morgan Geekie - Jake/Bean/Nino Niederetter was available
Chicago Blackhawks John Quenneville - Nikita Zadorov was available
Columbus Blue Jackets Gavin Bayreuther - Max Dome was available
Detroit Red Wings Dennis Cholowski - Troy Stecher was available
Los Angeles Kings Kurtis MacDermid - Olli Maatta wa available
Montreal Canadiens Cale Fleury - Carey Price was available
Ottawa Senators Joey Daccord - Chris Tierney was available
Philadelphia Flyers Carsen Twarynski - Tons of talent was available
San Jose Sharks Alexander True - Dylan Grambell was available
Vancouver Canucks Kole Lind - Brayden Holtby was available

What amazed me, is that there was also "NO" side deals like Vegas made. I guess other GM's learned there lesson, and Seattle didn't have a leg to stand on. Francis must know something we all don't know. I guess the only good that came out of this is they have 29 in cap space to play with in free agency.

I’ll give them the MacDermid pick, he’s arguably the heavyweight champ, hits everything he sees, and can actually play. He’s a great glue guy for that team and will be a fan favorite. The rest are real head scratchers, we should hear if there were any side deals soon to try and make sense of this.

There was no way this draft was going to put Seattle on par with what Vegas did - the other 30 GMS learned their lessons and were well prepared ahead of time to expose people they didn't care if they lost... so no real side deals to be made. As far as fielding a playoff contender the first year - why would you want to do that if the cupboard is threadbare? You've got to build a long term contender through the draft, Vegas aside. I do disagree with some of the picks, but in the end, the philosophy makes sense to me as there really didn't seem to be much of an option.

As a Leaf fan though, I wish they would have taken Kerfoot and left us McCann.

Guessing with Philly Francis really did not like the money KVR and Voracek were making. Curious to see which UFA they target.

Don't you all think it is pre-mature to grade the Kraken's picks until the UFA & RFA portions are done? It seems to me that half of their picks were to load up their pipeline and deals are going to come. They have - at this point - and absolute SH*T ton of cap space to :
A: Help other teams out of Cap hell.
B: Improve their roster if players want to come to Seattle. ( bonus being close to BC and paying USA taxes).

Me thinks everyone needs to withhold judgement until about 3 weeks from now.

It was officially announced there are no side deals. Wow.

Ron Francis fail.

Seattle could have taken Gostibehere and flipped it for a 2nd R to Arizona. I guess Seattle was trying milk a first out of it and GM's had learned their lesson with Vegas.

They were able to flip Pitlick for a 4th. big whoop.

Sure there is still the UFA market coming up, but it would a lot more attractive to sign with Seattle if they had Price as a goalie, Johansen as #1C, Kerfoot as top 9 forward, JVR or Voracek as top 6. Or leave a space or two to attract the UFA to play on top 3 lines.

Bold prediction: After 20 games MacDermid is one of the top 3 jersey sales for Seattle (provided they keep him)

100%. Most Seattle hockey fans remember the “old school” WHL games, and Seattle always had some of the toughest teams out there. Hockey fans there love a rough style and fights, MacD will fit in perfectly, unless traded as you mentioned.
