Too early to tell. 20 games into the season isn't enough time to give a definitive answer. I would go with choice 'C'- Give them both a year. :) -Mike

P.S. -I could be biased and say Crosby because he's Canadian but that wouldn't be fair :D

No answer to this question at the moment... but:

O will probably be a better goal scorer than C.

HOWEVER, Crosby will make the players around him better as well as his team. He will have more points in the end ( he is a centerman after all) and he will play a better all-around game too. And as time goes on - he will not develop the pouting attitude that seems to befall most of the Russian star players with time.

I like Crosby's playmaking ability and he is going to make players around him better and playing with Mario is not going to hurt either.

Now the O I like watching him score goals and his scoring ability is awesome plus I like his nasty streak should help him with the fans.

Thanks

anyone else realize Ovechkin is 20 Crosby is only 18 .....
good point nick but the question as i understood it who is better....if we are rating on age then i have to vote them both at the top of their age groups for 18 crosby and 20 for overcookedchicken...

not arguing with you nick...read the question....says who is better? not who is better at age 20 overchicken now or crosby in two years? there no doubt crosby will be better at age 20 then overcookedchicken is now but the question reads who is better...based on my opinion to this point overchicken is better...my mind could change as season goes on. just my thinking...obv. i am not going to change your opinion as you won't change mine...jason

Ovechkin is the more complete player of the two. Crosby has amazing hockey sense and skills, Ovechkin brings the physical game with the amazing hands on a team with no supporting cast.

I think at this point in time, Ovechkin is the better player. HOWEVER, one must keep in mind that Ovechkin has two years on Crosby, and has been playing with men in the Russian League, therefore it gives him an unfair advantage. As somebody else mentioned, Ovechkin has a physical edge to his game that Crosby lacks, however I think that a lot of that has to do with physical maturity. If it came down to one on one hockey skills, I still believe Crosby is the better player, and yes even a better goalscorer. Ovechkin has a confidence level that Sid the Kid is still lacking, and again, it's a maturity thing. Once Crosby realizes he's got the tools to pot goals at the NHL level, you'll likely see his goal scoring total increase dramatically, as I firmly believe that he's got better goal scoring ability than Ovechkin as well. Anybody remember the behind the net goal that made Don Cherry call him a hot dog? Even Ovechkin couldn't do that........

It's all about the confidence at the NHL level, which is where Ovechkin holds the edge at this point in time....

Crosby by a longshot! Remember Washington has nobody else that can score so somebody has too! I'm not sure how anyone can say Ovechkin is a better "all around" Player, he will end up with 45-55 goals and 20 assists, if that's an "all around" player then Bondra is the best all around player of all time! C'mon guys watch a few Pens games to see.

ok, most hockey players will reach their full potential in the mid twenties when the body is done growing height wise and the body begins to fill out.

Right now as said before Ovechkin is doing it mostly by his self. Crosby has better players around him and they can take away the attention on the ice for those who play or have played will know. Ovechkin would be in his second year due to the lock out and Crosby will be 19 soon. So age doesnt make it a point right now, maybee the hockey expierience at the junior level is the deciding factor. QMJHL is a scoring league and getting 100+ points is done on a yearly basis and even over 150 is no biggie. The elite leagues over in Europe prep players most of the time to be more physical and complete players. Too early to tell but I will go with Ovechkin in the long run. I have seen both play and I enjoy Ovechkin just not the Caps at this point in time.

Both players are going to be good players in the future and who knows Anthony Stewart could be even better than them ? Too early to tell right now. Both players are on losing teams but which team has more talent ? The records are not too different right now.

people on each side of the discussion should remember it is opinion only ...I voted for Crosby and think he is/will be the over all better player..it is a little too soon to judge 20 games in to the season.

Neither of their teams has a fantastic record anyway..till one of them is more accomplished the debate might just be moot....
I also think most opinions will be bias....I can't see many Flyer fans choosing Crosby...just as most of Canada prefers Crosby.
