Who's looking for 2017 Upper Deck CFL?

According to universals website this is now delayed to the end of October. I'm trying to find out from my lcs if that's true.

I checked with Maple Leaf Sports here in Calgary yesterday and Darren confirmed the delay until late October. What a total failure by Upper Deck.

Its unfortunate that JOGO got kicked to the curb by the CFL after thirty years when Upper Deck came calling with a bag of money.

You can blame the PA - they're the ones who have the control over card licensing - the PA has all rights to CFL logos for cards - so the league isn't necessarily involved in licensing cards. I think this was one of the concessions the PA got when JOGO first got involved and the league itself wasn't concerned over revenue from card money since at the time most of the players were paying to be in the sets in the 80s and early 90s.

To be fair, UD is likely waiting for the CFL to send in autos and game jerseys. I don't think the delay is anything they can control. I also prefer late October as a release date. It's close to the Fall Expo and many people can complete their sets there.

Hama: Yes I remember discussing with you a couple of years back that the PA had more to do with JOGO than did the league. I guess the idealist in me is just disappointed that after sticking with the league for so long that JOGO couldn't maintain some form of license once Upper Deck arrived. I certainly can't blame the PA for signing what had to be a much more lucrative deal with Upper Deck.

Frankiefives: I'm surprised you would prefer the later release date. I would assume it would be better for Upper Deck, Distributors and SportsCard stores to have the product available for sale throughout the season, when interest is high, and prior to the NHL season kicking off. I am sure that waiting on autos and jerseys played a part in the delay. However, if that was the case I don't know why they waited until the last minute to announce such a significant delay.

My understanding is that the cards are printed and packed out in Canada, although I'm not sure if the autos and jerseys are put together in Canada as well, or if they are being built at their plant in North Carolina. UD has made a point of making sure that the CFL and Team Canada sets were done in Canada. If they're being done Stateside, that may account for the process delay

I agree about the earlier release date. To me, they should have the set out before the Labour Day games as that is when you have the peak hype for the season. I don't see any benefit to the set coming out near Expo as there is only a small portion of the CFL collector base that attends Expo. What I have heard is that the set simply isn't a priority for Upper Deck and they want to focus on other releases is the reason it is delayed.

I suspect the priority for Upper Deck these days is just trying to stay afloat.
