Why do the Red Wings get no hobby love?

Well, despite all my hopes and wishes, the Red Wings are up 2-0 unfortunately. I was hoping that the Pens this year would show up and win the Cup. The odds are now hugely against it. I'm neither a Pens nor a Red Wings fan. The reason I want the Pens to win is because their players get hobby love! It helps the store. When the Red Wings won last year, it made a negligible difference at sales at the store. My question is why do Detroit players get so little hobby love?
 
Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Hossa, Franzen, etc. - not Canadian boys. It seems a silly thing, but it has an impact on some people's viewing of who to collect. If Evgeni Malkin was actually Gene Malcolm from the Prairies, he'd be getting a lot more love too. I'm not a Wings fan so I don't collect them anyways, but believe me if any of those names above were to find themselves adding a little bleu to their blanc et rouge, I'd be collecting them like gangbusters.
 
Tell that to the numerous Datsyuk and Zetterberg collectors out there who shell out big bucks for their more limited stuff. Truth be told, perhaps they get no hobby love where the OP sets up shop, but to say that they don't get it elsewhere would be a little off, IMHO. Just like any team not named the Leafs or Habs gets very little interest here in Nova Scotia (although with local sweetheart Crosby playing on the Pens, we're starting to see a lot more Pens fans surfacing around here), regional premium plays a huge role in determining how quickly player or team cards move.
 
Add me to the mystified by the OP - Wings sell. Almost as well as cheap Leafs stuff.
 
Judging from the prices some of the stuff I chase end at... I would definately say there is a strong contingent of Wings collectors out there!
 
Ok, I guess I should rephrase it. They don't get they hobby love they deserve? In terms of my location, I'm 4 hours from Detroit. But I also set up at the Expo. I can remember a couple of Yzerman collectors, and one of them asked about Lidstrom. That was it! That from Stanley Cup champions, on another playoff run? I think European has something to do with it. Maybe not any big RCs, though Helm and Abdelkader are having decent playoffs. Yes, Red Wings sell better than Nashville, etc. When you can buy/sell Zetterberg autos for less than $20 and the guy doesn't sign for UD (much, if at all), it just seems like they should be getting more love.
 
hobby love for Wings stuff is specific in that you're looking for specific player collectors. Pens hobby love is more general in that anyone will look something over if given a decent price. in terms of traders and liquidity, Crosby and Malkin (and Ovy) are the closest things to currency the hobby has.
 
I have to agree at least to an extent with the OP. I do think it's much more a case of not getting the love they deserve though, rather than no love at all.

Guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Lidstrom have collectors, but the reality is all of these guys have accomplished more than Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Kane, Toews, Stamkos, etc. pretty much combined. Certainly there are Wings fans, and wings collectors, but with them coming to the NHL from overseas, there just isn't the broader collecting appeal that there might be if we were talking about Hank Z from North Vancouver, Paul D from Peterborough, and Nick L from Chateauguay.

Say what you want, this whole team is under appreciated in the hobby.
 
A) What defenseman does get hobby love????

B) If you can find ANYTHING of Zetty or Franzen at a reasonable price let me know.

C) Check out the completed auction comparisons for Darren Helm & Justin Abdelkader over the last 30 days - tlk about an up-tick!!!

I've given these guys love all year... Maybe that why I paid less then 125 Total for these 2....

I'd say after the Habs and Leafs and the Caps and Pens superstars, the Wings are right there in popularity.
 
For every person that LOVES the Wings, their are 5 people who HATE the Wings and won't touch their stuff.

Thats how I look at it.
 
i don't mind at all, in fact i think it's awesome. i am able to pick up zetterberg cards, not to mention redemptions - for great prices. i got this stevie y auto for $42!!!!!

I am always pleased when I pull any Wings cards out of my boxes because even the "common" guys sell. Maybe it's just me....
 
One Wing C in particular gets plenty of love in THIS house;) I can say that when I started the collection I was usually the only bidder on many auctions, after all, no one loves D even with the resume that this one has. Prices have improved over the years some, but I think the European/Russia factor plays a big role in it. Fine with me. I can quietly scarf up the pieces I love!
 
I find Wings cards are always easy to get rid of, either trading or selling. I also know that with my personal collection I have paid pretty good coin for some of my Cujo Wings pieces.

I agree with Brave. Although I am from St. Louis and have added incentive to hate the Wings.

One thing I have noticed over the past 2 years is that this group of Wings doesn't have much personality. It was easy to hate guys like Probert, McCarty, Draper, Shanny, etc. But Datsyuk, Rafalski, Franzen? You can't hate them because they are boring players. Great players but boring to watch.
