Why do you think hockey is the best sport in the world?

The Speed alone gets me going.

The thrill of the one on one, faking him out then going in on the goalie all by yourself. The one time you get to be a hero on ice and win the game.

The perfect tic tac toe to score a goal.

The chance to be a boxer if someone does something nasty to you.

Later on in life the chance to play on the ice with your kids. Coach their team, and yes hope that they can live the dream.

I love hockey. I've been injured for over fours years now. Haven't played since 06. IMO that's too young to retire from senior hockey. I hope to play maybe this winter, but I'm still afraid that I may hit my head again. The next hit could be my last.

Hockey is a full contact game of chess at 50 mph.
What other game lets you strap sharpened steel blades to your feet, knock your opponents teeth out with a large wooden weapon, drive your opponent head first into stationary objects, then shake his hand and have a beer after the game?

100 mph shots, full contact hitting, fights, speeds greater than some of the world's top sprinters, all on a sheet of pure ice.

The fact that you dont stop play after every shot, hit, or play is pretty good too.

It incorporates the very best of every sport.

- The pace is unmatched by any sport.
- Beautiful tic-tac-toes (like soccer)
- Huge hits (like football)
- Can beat someone up if they take liberties (like boxing)
- All 5 players MUST play both ends of the ice/field/court (like basketball)

Has far less commercials, stoppages, instant replays, tv timeouts, etc than football. The last 2 minutes of a close game are insanely nervewracking and intense (unlike basketball which is all foul + free throw). Shots on goal are in the dozens (unlike soccer which is single digits). Pace is back and forth, unlike baseball which can literally go minutes without a single 'actionable' offence (say, a hit).

I could go on forever. I really enjoy all the major sports but there is nothing like hockey. Nothing.

It lights that fire that burns deep inside... It's the one thing I know I can do and always love it... I will play until the day I can't walk anymore

No morons who beat up their wives/girlfriends/strippers, no guns, no drugs, no dogfighting, no retire-unretire-retire-unretire attention seeking me-monkeys, no ginormous egos, no trophy returning, no perjury charges, no steroid assisted records broken, and finally no cheerleaders.....well maybe not that one. :)

no ginormous egos

Well.......maybe one......

All things mentioned above AND living in Los Angeles hockey is kind of a mystery. When people find out you play or you are a fan they get scared.
