Will Boston get a top 3 pick with the Leafs draft pick?

Man I hope so....

I think it will be closer to #3 than #1 I just don't see them finishing dead last. Kessel started off on fire and everyone thought that the Leafs made out on the better end. This is not something that will be decided for a few years. Kessel has many good years a head of him and a draft pick is just that a pick. There a few guarantees. After Taylor Hall who would go 2nd or 3rd?
 
I still think the leafs made a good trade for Kessal.
Since we all know there draft picks never work out,
even if they took a top 3 pick this June

But so were Daigle,Wickenheiser and Falloon. The problem with draft picks is they are hit and miss. We need to review this trade in 5 years to see who got the best deal.
But it does look like Bruins will get a top 3 pick as Oilers and Canes and Leafs have been left behind the main pack.

Well from Torontos point of view I still think it is a good trade. They just brought in a new GM who is looking to rebuild a team that really didnt have much to work with. He gave up a couple of high draft picks that even if they panned out he would have to wait a couple of years till he had players that could lead the team. With Kessel he has a top line goal scorer to start building around.

The Bs have time to draft and develop a top draft pick. Toronto would probably have to throw the player into the fire right away. How many times have we seen players development slowed due to being shoved into top line spots to quick? Even if the Bs draft really well I call this a draw. The only way it comes out lop sided in my mind is if Kessel can never stay healthy or Boston drafts absolute duds.

Top draft picks tend to be more hit-and-miss when the team doing the drafting doesn't do their homework. Daigle was just a bad pick. So were Bonk, Berard and Phillips. The Senators just had a bad scouting staff, period. The Bruins have done very well drafting in recent years.

Plus many of those drafts in the 90s were very shallow talent-wise. Take a look at the history of the top three draft picks since 2000 and it's a much more telling story of how valuable these picks are.
 
Phillips may not wow you as a 1st overall pick but look at that draft. The talent there was awful. Scouting has gotten so much better that a top 5 pick pretty much assures you of a player.

And Edmonton is getting the first overall pick so lay off!
 
I think the Bruins should trade it for scoring NOW! There is no guarantee they will land Hall and seems to me there is a big drop off after that.

Unless the Bruins want to go into rebuilding mode I say they use the leverage that it could be a number one pick and get someone young and that is signed for a decent number of years at a good price now.

Nathan who would you like to see them sign? What type of player.. They have a couple guys in the AHL that have potential.. ie Marchand Hamill
are u looking for someone like a Kessel that we gave up or another promising player.. I like Peter Mueller and think he would fit nicely but who else are u thinking of.

I have no idea Bill. Kovalchuk would be too expensive but that is what we need, someone that can flat out score. Maybe they shouldn't have let Kessel go but he obviously didn't want to be in Boston for whatever reason.

I just don't see the sense in hanging onto it when they could be just one piece away from being a real contender when healthy. Some 18 year old out of juniors isn't going to help them do that for at least 3-4 years even if it is Hall.
 
Looking at this from the outside - this is, most likely, one of those trades that both teams will end up happy with. Toronto gets a proven scorer who is still young and happy to be in Toronto while Boston gets some picks to build on for a player they were going to have a tough time resigning and who they had fallen out of love with.

Win Win in my book (or at least I think that is how it will shake out)

I agree Nathan, Kovalchuk would be outstanding, but you are right, he would be very expensive (rightfuly so). I wonder what we could do to open up some budget to make room for a buy like that...who would you think we'de have to let go, or more importantly, who would you realistically be willing to let go to pick up what would be a 50+ goal scorer in our division.
 
i would be Ok with Moving Wheeler Hamill or Hunwick Not Rask though. Marchand has a lot of upside. Wheeler has flashes of how good he can be but for some reason he just does not excite me.
