Free agent defenceman Danny Markov has agreed to terms with the Detroit Red Wings, a source told The Canadian Press on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old spent last season with the Nashville Predators, a team as deep as any on the blue-line. He had 11 assists and a plus-9 rating in 58 games last season.

Thanks for droppin' in! Now if only the Wings would sort out their goaltending situation?

Good signing, depending on the numbers of course. Lidstrom and Schneider are the silk and Markov brings the grit to balance it out. Any word on the status of Fischer for the 06-07 season? Some doctors were saying he shouldn't play hockey again, which would be a darn shame!
As for the Wings goalie situation, I can see them exploring a move for any of Giguere/Bryzgalov, Nabokov/Toskala or Esche.
Moving Esche and maybe Nedved or Dimitrakos for a package including Nikky Kronwall would be a big shot in the arm to Philly's blueline.

He's not a star player, but he's a very good player. It's often the very good players that are let go in order to keep the stars around.

From everything I'm reading the Wings most likely are interested in Biron. Regier and Holland have a past as far as trading goes and he would be the cheapest option to go for. Also I've read that they are waiting for Miller to sign before they trade Biron as it's a bargaining chip for the Sabres. In return look for them to get one of the following Lang, Hudler, Kopecky, Williams.
The following guys are untouchable as far as Holland has said (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall)!!

Rumor went around town here a few weeks ago that Fischer was looking to get clearance to play THIS season. My thoughts are he may get a Dr's clearance but the Wings and the NHL will say no to him.
Personally as much as I'd love him back the guy's health and family has to come first and I just don't think playing will benefit him in any way.
Also, no way is Kronwall going anywhere especially for Esche! You'll be lucky to get Dan Cloutier return for Esche. Meaning it's probably gonna be a bag of pucks if you get rid of him. Just too many goalies out there available and only a couple teams looking for a starter. Namely the Wings and Blues!!

I see what you're saying about supply & demand, but Esche is a better goalie than alot of people give him credit for. I wouldn't mind him staying in Philly at his price, but him and Zeus are the best tradebait we have right now, and I like what Zeus brings to the table as a shut-down centre... especially if Preems is hanging it up.

It might be a differen't story if so many teams weren't looking to dump goalies. Say Philly wanted to get rid of Esche a few years back after his decent season. Then I could see a decent return for him. Right now with the likes of Giguere, Bryzgalov, Toskala, Nabakov, Biron, Legace, Hasek and a few others available there's gonna be a few goalies sitting on the backburner till someone either gets injured or teams drop the trade demands.
I'm pretty happy that Holland is sitting back and waiting as one of these teams looking to trade is just going to want to cut there losses and dump a goalie to save some cap space.
