Worst "Certified" Gretzky Auto Ever?

They lost me years ago when they authenticated a kid's birthday card signed by a 7 year old Britney Spears. I wonder what they had to use as a comparison?

I know they have certainly had their issues and I am not going to stand behind this auto, however, their job is not to authenticate nice looking autos or autos that fit a player/persons trends - their job is to authenticate whether the player (in this case) signed the card.

Maybe there was documentation and Gretz signed this half blitzed falling off of a bus - if he signed the card then there should be no reason for them not to authenticate it - even if it looks like garbage. In this case, they did not grade the auto, only authenticated it. Which means that, in their professional opinion, Gretzky signed the card - no more, no less.

That being said - I wouldn't want this card at any price.

There are a number of Gretzkys up right now that look strange, but given the number of changes Wayne has made to his autograph, nothing surprises me. We just got back several from JSA/SCG that are beautiful, but I've also had several authenticated cards that were not attractive sigs from his early '80s quick-scribble days.

I'll post a few scans shortly.

I wonder how many genuine autos PSA/DNA has turned down...the Trevor Linden auto up above doesn't even looks alike his autograph even for 1% no not even 0.001%....of what I has seen.

I've seen a few Linden autos that look like that. As well, I've had him sign a couple items in the past and it looks spot on to the card above.

I'd be stunned if that Linden wasn't legit.

I laughed when I heard these PSA/DNA autos would be in ITG History of Hockey. As soon as I read that, my mind was made up to avoid opening the product.

I agree with this. That Linden is legit.

When I was posting the link, it was more as to wonder why anyone in their right mind would pay anything for an autograph like that when they can get a real nice Linden autograph for around $10.00. As someone stated above I would never have any interest in buying a PSA/DNA card, it may be an actual autograph, but it looks like crap.

My best,

ken
