Check out this EBay auction.

Almost everyone on this board knows there is no secret way to pull the big ones we are all searching for. I guess if someone were deperate enough they might just spend the 2.50 but really this auction is such crap. Opinions welcome.

you may want to rethink that statement. I hate to break it to you, but even though it is looked down upon, Pack searching is very real, and very easily done.

Pack searching is one thing, I can grap a pack and feel it and be able to tell there is a thick card. But this auction makes it sound like you can nail a gretzky or crosby and we all know how rare those are. And how exactly do pack search for an auto. In my experience auto's are usually the same size a normal base card.

If theres a differnece in the cards, theres a way. I cant tell you because I dotn know, but if theres something differnet, someone will figure it out. Most likely weight. Just think outside the box. If it was Nascar, and the hits were the hood pieces, you coudl just use a metal detector, lol. As long as theres something differnet, then there will be a way. And obviously your right about the player selection. Anyone thats busted boxes knows that even when you do nail the hit, its still likely an unlisted star at best, anythign better is a bonus.

with my boxes of spx that ive bought this yr,ive gone along and weighed up the packs and kept track of what has a hit and whats been a miss.
but even if u go into a store and your dealing with an opened box and the cardshop owner lets u select your own packs, you still might not get what uve expected to get if other people have gone in and picked out packs themselves.only way it works is if u have a fresh box at your hands, but even then,i havent found a consistency in the packs and the weights corresponding to what cards u get.
ive bought 5 boxes, the first 2 i did them in a screwed up way,but the next 3 i recorded the ones all from the lefthand side of the box, then did the same with the rh
i was bored and curious, and just happened to have a scale on my hands

my one box weighed a total of 247.4 grams(all the packs weighed and added together) and i ended up getting a toews auto rook /499 and a spx force hologram
and then my box weighing the most(254.9 grams) had a FBF and a nikolas backstrom auto rook /499

Well Its good to know that UD is finnally doing something about it. my point to the OP was just that he shouldnt be so naieve (spelling????), and openly say "that doesnt happen".

i might be shunned for saying what ive said, but even if i didnt have weights of the packs and was allowed to pick my own from boxes i would prolly do it the same way that i do,grab one near the bottom, middle and top, but a little mix from each side

I dont see any problems there. At one time, it was pretty obvious were the top cards where from all of the companies. its taken them a while, but they finnally have done something. I know its hard, especially with oatches, btu they coudl have done more sooner.

I am sorry but at my local store they know they like me and I would consider John a friend. But there is know way in hell he would let me weigh my box before I bought it. And I have heard that there are card stores that won't let you pack search, period. I mean honestly is there anyone else out there that there local card will let them weigh the box before they bought it. Other than that can anyone tell me how else you could nail the "big hits".

guess i should of said i bought the boxes off the net, but u shouldnt of been so quick to assume that they were weighed in a store either

carrying around a scale would kinda give the suspicion that your a dealer of another kind

This is brutal

Look at the number of sales from that auction. It just shows that people still want to beat the system. There has been many threads on this and it should just let be.
Who cares about ways to cheat other potential buyers....Play the fair game and take your chances. When you buy the packs, you buy the odds.......period

I remember the days when you could tell a jersey was in a pack because of the thickness, but now it's pretty hard to beat the odds by pack searching because of the decoys. There's no science to it, pack searching or not.

Let's not forget that there are also ways to reseal foil packs, thus making it pretty simple to toss a common auto into a pack.

I got the short end of something like that.
I bought a blaster of UD S1 and well...
Someone had resealed everything!
They opened the packs, took out all the inserts, RCs and possibly jersey cards or autos. I could tell because the foil was sticky, the packs were stuck together, the cards were stuck to the foil and I was missing 2-3 cards per pack. So I was paying 20$+ for a box of base.
