Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda...

I sold a Kucherov YG High Gloss /10 graded BGS 9 for $450 CDN. That was about 6 months before he won the Arty. :(

When 05/06 The Cup released in 2006, our small store brought in 2 cases. I intended to bust one of them. I chose the wrong one. Nothing of note in the case I opened. Nice 3-clr Ovechkin Cup RC /99 in the other case.

Baseball wise: wish I opened as much 2009 Draft (Mike Trout first cards) as I did in 2008 :(. Also wish I had a do over on 2016 Bowman Chrome.

Hockey wise: probably Crosby YG’s or something similar.

Just got back into the hobby, was at a show and saw a Crosby FWA. Asked how much, and they said $800. I thought to myself, that seems like a lot of money for a card...

Ok, the very last day I had my store open, also happened to be Hockey Card day. So, I ordered and paid for my lot, and gave out the packs (somewhat begrudingly) and at times wonder why I just didn't crack them myself. They are meant to encourage buyers to come back, but here my doors were closing because enough didn't come when the shop was open. Anyways, part way through the day, this Dad and kid come back so happy with their free pack, and the Sidney Crosby auto they got from it. Ugh! It was a kick in the teeth I'll never forget. Occasionally, I see them at the Expo and get to relive the moment all over again. Yeah!

Nothing too major for me. I do regret not buying into a Crosby YG when they were like a quarter of the price they go for now.

This is me as well. Crosby YG is the only card I am missing from the 2005-06 Upper Deck set. The summer of 2006 the card could be had for $80-$100 and I thought that was too much at the time :|

Same. I could never justify the price and now they are just too high and don't fit in my collection theme. Though it would be nice to own one.

I suppose I could still buy one, but I'd rather put that kind of money towards other hobby-related things.

Traded away 3 Jerry Rice rc’s for practically nothing (baseball of all things) when I just got back into the hobby of collecting in ‘90.

Traded away Gretzky SOTT, Lindros BAP Stick, and Gretzky/Messier Ice Stanley Cup Foundations cards in a single deal for a couple of cards incl a 96-97 Zenith box, about $150 in value. Got a Gretz/Mess SCF back in a great deal, but shoulda made a better inital trade. It was ‘98.

Went to a card show and sold/traded SPGU Crosby auto #’s, Lemieux SPGU patch, ORR SPGU auto /50, RNH/Landeskog SPGU xtra auto/25, and a Landeskog or Duchene UD RC (can’t remember, too many yrs ago). Not really complaining but ended up doing better that I thought I would. Got some cards that I wanted and $150 in cash. Only thing, shoulda held onto the Orr auto. That is gold now.

And 2 coulda’s...LSC got 2 boxes of 06-07 Artifacts, I grabbed one, decent box...but the other box had a Calgary Tundra Tandems 1/1 tag. Meh! LCS had 05-06 ICE, grabbed a stack (1/2 box, all that I could afford), pulled a Koivu patch! Rumor had it, 9 out of 10, if they had a patch, they had /99 RC. Not sure if the /99 was in the box. (Probably was Brule anyhow.)

By practice, I try not to buy retail as I see that as a money grab by the companies but accidentally bought some retail artifacts buying a variety of loose packs from a LCS in Binghamton a few years ago. If I had known, I woulda not bought them, but the Hockey Gods were watching me that day and I pulled a Joe Thornton Autofacts!!! It was a 09-10 retail pack!!!

Back when I first got into online trading, waaaay back in the very early 2000's, I stupidly traded a handful of (then) high-end GU, including some Roy's, for a huge volume of early 90's base cards I needed for sets. Live and learn. :|

Bought a box of 11-12 SPX at a really good price, ended up pulling the Team Canada Shadowbox Wayne Gretzky auto. It was a Redemption and expired by over a year but UD came through in a big way and sent me the card. I sold the card, and know it has a good home to a fantastic Collector and I got way beyond fair market value at the time, but I really SHOUDA kept that card.

Okay, I have one. I wish I would have loaded up on 2005-06 boxes, boxes that I knew were basically devoid of anything, like Ice and first wave SPA. These boxes were not worth much at the time and shouldn't be worth anything now, but oh my goodness, the prices they garner! Any given box of Ice has maybe $20 of cards in it. Seriously. It is a terrible product. But because there's an infantile chance at pulling a Crosby or Ovechkin, the prices on these boxes today blow the mind.

mine would be the '93 Jeter SP rookie, had the whole set, plus a few doubles. Wishing i had put those away for a few years.

I thought it would be the Matthews SPA Future Watch Inscripted 008/999 I sold for $2100 USD but a couple years later it’s looking like I sold at the right time. My biggest losses have come in Baseball by far. Some of those guys take years to become stars and then their Bowman autos sell for $1000+ when they sold for $10 on release day.

Here is another shoulda...15-16 Champs case...20-box case was going for something like $800 US. That places the boxes at roughly $40/box.HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICE OF THESE LATELY?!?!?! $130 US @ Dave & Adams!!! I saw the price for a box a few months ago, in February. Almost fell over! Last time I was there a few years ago, I bought 3 boxes for the same price. They said it was because of Eichel’s success & his SSP RC. I have the Gretzky mini auto, McDavid SSP, (2) Hudon mini autos, Domi mini jersey, McDavid SP & jersey, M-A Fleury auto, and the Eichel SSP from loose boxes.

Truth be told, If I had bought the case, it would be cracked. I wouldn’t have saved it. I like breaking the boxes too much.
