Just curious if anyone remembers an article that was released a few years ago regarding the misprints from the early 90's and the YG's that were affected. From the top of my head I remember Brendl in 99-00, and the Aulin, Spezza, Etc in 01-02.

I did find a pic of the Ahonen as well from 01-02, and found some previous posts stating there are 17 total from 01-02.

But, I distinctly remember someone had an article link with a pic of each card in question, and a little write up about each one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

Pavel Brendl and Jeff Jillson Young Guns cards were produced from Upper Deck Gold Reserve and held back and destroyed because they were not able to release due to NHL agreement. Alan Muir at Beckett at the time confirmed that they are not supposed to exist, further Upper Deck wanted them back rather badly.
It poses an interesting question if one were to exist today. Would one be worth anything today, should it be graded and by who? Would Upper Deck have any interest anymore or would the public have interest in a very rare Young Gun?

I believe this did happen fairly recently, a Quinton Byfield Rookie Threads jersey was released prior to him playing in the NHL if I recall correctly. I only remember there being one copy that got out but it may have been more. I seem to recall there was quite a bit of interest in it.

I dug through a post I made years ago on SCF, and found a comment someone else left about those YGs:

2001-02 Upper Deck Young Guns
212 Ivan Huml
213 Igor Knyazev
214 Pavel Vorobiev
216 Steve Ott
217 Alexei Smirnov
218 Stephen Weiss
219 Mikhail Yakoubov
220 Jared Aulin
221 Yanick Lehoux
222 Ari Ahonen
223 Raffi Torres
224 Jason Spezza
226 Alexander Svitov
229 Karel Pilar
230 Brad Boyes

These all allegedly exist. I know I've seen pictures of a few of them. Near impossible to find, I think.

I saw this post as well, but I remember, either here or SCF, someone having an article, with pics, of the cards in question. I remeber seeing the brendl in the article, as well as Aulin, Spezza, and Ahonen. I can't find the link anywhere and it's killing me! Lol

I don't recall the Brendl, but the other three are the ones I remember seeing pictures of. Maybe it's a bit of a Mandella effect though?

This image was in the thread on SCF:

I owned the Brendl Exclusives error at one point. Traded it around 2006-2007 for a triple color Rick Nash SPx RC and a Zetterberg SPx Jersey Rc. No idea what happened to it after that but the card went to Canada and it was a collector on the old Beckett Forums. Would love to get my hands on it again. I can't find the photo anymore but it used to be on the "front page" of Hobby Insider before the ownership change.

If you go on the wayback machine you can see a picture and many pictures of the aforementioned cards in this thread:

Yeah, a few leaked out.

This was the Rookie Materials:
