Hello,

I'm curious about your opinion on Panini Select.

Personnally, I'm not a fan. It is nice looking but the value is not there. I participated in a case break and was disapointed. UD 1 is better in my opinion, at nearly half the price.

Each box seems very hit or miss. At the expo I had a loaded box and one that was a dud.

Re-sale value just doesn't seem to be on its side either as many of the autographs /399 like Tarasenko can be had for under $20. But if you hit a nice prime piece then you're back in the money.

Great looking product though, I'd imagine a case would be fun.

I just don't get sticker products with the sticker just stuck in randomly. I only enjoy sticker sets with an area specifically for the sticker (07-08 spx, and 13-14 autofacts are good examples. Select just looks rushed, with a horrid design for sticker placement.

It is like a mashup of SPX and certified. Not one of Panini's best, While it does have one amazing looking insert set the Hall of Fame induction design is real nice

I think it's a marketing plan that hasn't worked.

They wanted to go up against UD S1. You better have something pretty awesome lined up. But they release Prizm just before. Too much too soon. Would have been better to load it up on one product and try to make it a staple product.

Seems like random marketing. Throw it out there and see what sells. Collectors are going to get burned by a product and never buy from them again.

I wouldn't say it's a flop. There's some solid content in there. The cards are attractive. If there's a flaw, it's that the price point (which I'm going to guess has more to do with the cost of production than cost of content) seems out of step with what people feel such a product OUGHT to sell for.

Certified is a brand name with a mixed history. I commend Panini for trying to restore it to former glories. I honestly think that they'll get there.

not a fan.while there are some nicely designed cards(fire on ice, youth explosion)i feel Panini dropped the ball making this a "chrome" type release.especially with it coming right after the Prizm set.to me they are basically the same, with the exception of the jersey inclusion's,which in my opinion doesn't work well on chrome finish cards, unless of course it's a refractor.also, the absence of Dufex cards in Select was a big faux paux.the Gold Select Team cards are what drove the product in the '90s,to leave that technology out was a big mistake in my eyes.

Love this stuff . Have done a few boxes compared to a few packs of UD1. Who wants yg's /5000? Or something crazy when you can have autographed shiny goodness!!!

I couldn't of said it better. I like the designs for the most part. Sticker autos on shinny stuff is usually a bad idea and don't like what they did with the autos on this set. I like the refractor looking cards but why bust this stuff at such a laughable price when you can buy some these shinnies for a couple of dollars a piece?

Select has some absolutely beautiful cards, but I can't help but wonder -- with a chrome-technology set having just been released, why not save Select for later in the season, and do it sans-stickers?

Pretty cards; not the greatest sticker auto execution (design and application); felt rushed. Very difficult to get value from a group break - even if you win a random draw - as the hits are spread wide and far (108 RC autos). As stated above, very hit-or-miss per individual box and I don't see how case breakers will make their money back even if purchasing at wholesale prices. I bought into a couple of case breaks (close to $0 resale value, literally) and have picked up a few lots on eBay, but moved on quickly and Select is no longer on my radar other than a couple of Sakics.

I was in a case group break. The best card (by far) was a Huberdeau Prime jsy AU RC, the second a Murray AU RC. #3 a veteran auto/jsy /20 and also a Malkin insert /10.

Outside of that, a couple of parallels /10 or /25, and a bunch of no-namer RCs.

With my Habs selection, I got the following: Honored Selection Patrick Roy, Christian Thomas jsy white auto RC /199, double strike PK Subban, David Desharnais Prizm base, Cornerstones Max Pacioretty, Fire on Ice Carey Price, PK Subban Prizm base, Freezer Patrick Roy.

I could have bought a Galchenyuk Auto Jersey RC for less than the price of my spot.

I don't mind it - It's the first opportunity to get the auto RCs for the true 13-14 rookies - just like UD got the jump with the 12-13 rookies for auto RCs with Trilogy.

The number of rookie autos in it is a little off putting - but not necessarily surprising either. I do think once most collectors get UD1 out of the way, some may turn their attention to it. Given the amount of Prizm I've already done, I'm not going to dive into this as much as I would had this set come out earlier, but my focus on Prizm wasn't necessarily on autographs, where Select the focus is on it more.

I opened a box. Base reminds me of recent Topps Finest Baseball set... not a bad thing, but not exactly what I envisioned for Select. Probably the best looking base card I've seen from Panini so far. Also, the first one I've seen from them with place of birth on the back :)

My favourite card in the box was a Landeskog Cornerstone, as it reminded me most of a 90s style insert.

I do think the sheer numbers of rookies will hurt a few products this year, especially at the random box level.

I actually like the design. Although, I don't think many people are opening it, cause I haven't seen most of the Arcobellos from that set (should anyone pull them.....)

4 Autos, including two auto/jsy's for $115 US (and the chance at a patch/Gold insert's to /10 and one of ones) make this a winner for me....Plus, Hertl autos first!
