Your Worst Box Breaks

Lot of sweet breaks on the board lately got me to thinking what were some of your worst breaks?

A couple of mine:

01/02 UD Challenge for the Cup - 3 RC's of guys who haven't seen an NHL game since the 01/02 Season, 1 Graded Nasreddine Rookie, and a Tom Barasso Jersey. I made about 12 dollars on this break in 2002, when the product just came out.

05/06 Fleer Ultra - My SSP was Jeff Woywitka, Jerseys were Bill Guerin and Eric Nystrom, and the box hit ended up being a Johan Franzen RC.

A friend who occasionally posts here busted a box of 05/06 UD Ice. He manged 2 Zigmund Palffy jerseys, a Robert Nilsson autograph, and a 5 RC's /1999. The best RC ended up being Peter Taticek! My friend was so ticked with the break he actually called Karvin to complain.

Really John? At least he got an autograph dude. My Ice Box from 05-06 was 5 /2999 rookies of such fine quality as Brian Eklund, 2 Jay Bouwmeester jerseys, a Doug Weight jersey and no autograph. First and last box of that junk for me.

Some of my other less than stellar boxes over time. I don't case bust and bust the occasional single box, so factor that into what I'm saying here (that it happens to me more often than not)

-A 97-98 Beehive box with Sergei Varlamov and Stefan Cherneski 5x7 autos. Whoopee :rolleyes:

-An Artifacts Box in 07-08 with Chris Chelios and Brendan Morrison standard jerseys, and a Trevor Daley/Sergei Zubov (I think) dual jersey...all with the highest print run. My autograph was Brad Richardson and I didn't get a rookie redemption.

-2006-07 Trilogy box. I was in Australia when the product released and was super excited seeing everybody's breaks that I couldn't wait to get home and drop $200 on a box. I shoulda stayed in Australia with my 4 no name rookies (Jonas Johannsen is the only one I remember) my 3 white swatch jerseys and my Chuck Kobasew Ice Scripts (no Frozen in Time that I can recall.) I also got a Kipper Ice Scripts redemption in the box, but it was never made, and the ensuing replacement just made the box even worse.

I've had more that I've probably just blocked from memory...but some of the Vancouver guys saw my stinkers when I used to bust with frequency.

I do have one saved story though...I had a BTP box at the expo that I thought was a Kurtis Mucha auto, Jon Quick jersey and a Jhonas Enroth mask. That's it. Even the guy at the ITG booth watching me crack for the redemption winced when he saw the lack of...well anything really. When I was sorting base cards some time later though, I did notice there was a Steve Mason autograph stuck to the back of a card, so that sorta saved the break. :dance:
 
I've had my share of bad ones, but my worse one was shared with andhicks.

We busted an absolute brutal box of 08-08 SPGU with the best card being an Ilya Zubov Rookie Signatures - I'm serious. I though I was gonna jump over the display at the store owner, lol...

We've had our share of great hits as well.

Oh **** son...I forgot about that box but I remember becoming nauseous when you were busting at my table at the show. You win this thread Derek...I've never seen any box that bad before.

08-09 UD champs Case

i pulled 5 tyler kennedy autos, 4 jon filewich autos, 3 jonas hiller autos, 2 ilya zubov autos, 2 thomas vanek and 3 cory murphy autos
i didnt pull not even 1 SP auto,
4 boxes had no autos in them at all,
and to top it off, 3 packs were sealed but EMPTY!!!
 
I'll take the Boyle's off of you :D.

Even after busting a case worth of Black and seeing many more boxes, never have I seen or heard of something this bad. Now I know where my lettermen went (I opened a couple boxes with 0 letterman and the highest print run was /50 for dual jerseys)

Probably would have been Iggulden autos anyway.

Wow that is bad. I did had a 4 RC UD Black, thankfully one of them was Turris. In future, UD is you are listening, PLEASE, PLEASE limit RCs to one a pack.

Not sure who it was but somebody awhile back (when the video of UD Ultimate collection Football empty pack video thread was being 'showcased') said they had an empty Cup box. That has to be the all-time worse.

I can't remember my all-time worse box. I try to forget them. My 08-09 SPGU case break this year had 2 Quad jerseys of middle of the road guys as my "case" hits. I got $110 total for them. Considering the case is around $2000, I was totally put off cracking for profit after that case.

I remember back to 01-02, I had a box of SPA with only 3 short print Greats, no rookies and no autograph (although there was a no name jersey). However, the next box made up for it with an auto rookie and a Datsyuk /25 along with all of the other usual hits.
 
I'm not gonna let ITG off in easy this thread. 05/06 Heroes and Prospects: Ray Macias Autograph. I can't remember for the life of me who the jersey was, but I got 2 bucks for it despite being 2 colours.

03/04 Parkhurst Rookie: I did 2 boxes of this stuff. First box was amazing - Horton auto/jersey, 2 Orr Jerseys, and a Wellwood auto RC. Also pulled a Bossy jersey/stick and a 2 color Dionne jersey.

Second box at the time landed me a Niittymaki RC Jersey and a Kunitz autograph. Oh, and a Libor Pivko 1 colour Emblem..... And a gold jersey on Tony Salmelainen The Niitty eventually made some of my money back when his cards were hot for that month, but overall.... Ouch!
 
sprague11 - thanks for reminding me. almost forgot that the box of ITG Between the Pipes i got last year was absolute garbage. lucky for them i don't buy alot of their product and it quickly fades from memory...
 
Easily these

08 ITG Between the Pipes (in 06 I bought a case and a half, tons of fun, 08 made me quit buying BTP altogether)

08 Superlative (after all cards were moved I lost about 490.00 of the 550.00, I will never ever break that again, including Bleu/Blanc/Rouge)
