While I'm glad guys like Zherdev have options, this is really hurting the North American view of Russian players.
Dmitry Kulikov would have been a top-10 pick if it weren't for being born overseas. Working in his favor, he was already playing in the Q when drafted, or he might have slipped to the 2nd round.

True enough.
Things continue to not speak well of player's who do this. But hey, the KHL offers easy money for these guy's - a lot of it, and shorter seasons to boot. No wonder when things look uncertain, or too difficult, guy's simply bolt to Russia.

Say all you want but the KHL is hurting the NHL. When top tier talent leaves we get watered down players who normally wouldn't make the NHL. Yes it allows more North American talent to play but the level of play drops a little with every player that leaves and has his spot filled by a bench warmer.

While Zherdev might not hurt individually, the idea that top level talent has other options besides playing in a faltering league in north america is something to think of. I dont know why there is so much hostility, the guy is playing closer to his home.
And for the kids saying stuff about Zherdevs portrayal of Russains, he is ukrainian. And I believe the top 2 players in the game are russian, so not a complete loss eh?
Im glad the Rangers walked away, not happy to see another top talent leave. The way the league is run, and how some of the fans react to a multicultural league, Id want to play back home too.

Definitley not a big loss. Maybe he's a good player, but he's definitley a person I can live without.
I met the Rangers players in their hotel when they were playing in Switzerland for the victoria cup in october 08. Most of them were very friendly and took their time to sign and do some smalltalk except Mr. Zherdev. He came down to the lobby with a starbuck coffee in his hand, stood besides us for 20 minutes with a face that told me that he was absolutley pi**** off and the only thing he said was: "I only sign after the match".
Since that day, he's definitley.... :banned:

When an Ovechkin/Malkin/Kovalchuk level player leaves, let's fret then.
Zherdev was definitely expected to be in that sort of group when he came into the NHL. I remember how hot is UD premier rookie was when it came out. I for one was hoping to see good things from him in the NHL, I guess it just never really happened.
