Does anybody know anythign about Zherdev being sent down to Syracuse? I saw a quick blurb about him being sent down with Fritsch and LeClaire as well.. Anybody know why he was sent down besides maybe struggling a bit?

This is what I could quickly find: tsn.ca

However, if I was to venture a guess. For Zherdev, it might just be the case of requiring a WAKE Up! ;)

The Blue Jackets sent a bunch of young guys down to get some playing time while they were off ... I guess they don't play for a week or so. It must be just young kids who have contracts that give the team the flexibility to do so with them.

It's likely due to CBJ's schedule, with a game on the 1st and then the 8th, sending players down will save money, and it's likely that Zherdev, LeClaire (and the other 5?) are able to be sent down without dealing with waivers, and if I recall correctly, the Canucks use Josh Green as a yo-yo, because each day saves the team $2500, and if you save 7 players at that amount, that's an extra $100K of cap room to play with.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Columbus Blue Jackets recalled forwards Nikolai Zherdev, Dan Fritsche and Geoff Platt on Monday from Syracuse of the AHL.

Zherdev, Fritsche, Platt and four other players were assigned to the Crunch on Friday because the Blue Jackets had six days between games. It's the longest non-Olympic break for Columbus this season.

The Blue Jackets play the New York Islanders on Thursday.

Zherdev has four goals and seven assists in 25 games this season, and Fritsche two goals and one assist in 22 games. Platt has played just one game for Columbus.

That's how I understood it, too. Keeping them busy during the big gap in the schedule. Thank goodness as Nik is on one of my fantasy teams. :D
