Your teams best on ice team ever?

gotta love johnny bowers....kinda wish he woulda been a hab but we had no where to put him....coulda made him a d-man i guess...comedic relief on the bench?

i dont know how you can say this......i have no doubt that scott stevens could have played in the six team league but he would at best have been an average playerm and he would'nt have taken liberties like he did in a 30 team league...if he hit bobby hull or gordie howe like he did lindros or kariya they woulda got up and killed him

He hit them clean, and he hit them hard.

Obviously this is a discussion that can't be solved, as it is impossible to put Stevens, Howe and Hull on the ice to duke it out... but it is crazy to say that Stvens wouldn't have defended himself.

What are these "liberties" you speak of?

Maple Leafs

Centre- Sittler

Left Wing- Frank Mahovlich

Right Wing- Lanny McDonald- although he enjoyed more success post Leafs

Defense
Tim Horton- shutting em' down

Borje Salming- carrying the mail

Goal

Johnny Bower

Dan.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay no Sundin!

I'm gonna limit this to player's I've watched in my lifetime. Old video's don't count for myself..:)

C- Steve Yzerman (was there any doubt)

W- Brendan Shanahan (never saw 1 player change an attitude of a team like he did in 97)

W-Henrik Zetterberg (Sorry, gonna play him on the off wing because he needs to be in the lineup)

D-Nick Lidstrom (Top 3 of all time and counting for the Wings Captain)

D-Vlad Konstantinov (Gotta agree with Bruce, he could have been one of the best if not for the accident)

Goalie-Man I wanna say Mike Vernon but I gotta go Dom Hasek! Best big game goalie I've ever seen!!

I would put my Flames like this:

Goal:
Mikka Kiprusoff
Backup Mike Vernon

Defensive Pairings:
Al Macinnis Dion Phaneuf
Gary Sutor Paul Reinhart
Robyn Regehr Jamie Macoun

Left Wing:
Gary Roberts
Jim Peplinski
Martin "The Eliminator" Gelinas (for nostalgic reasons)
Cory Stillman

Right Wing (The Flames strongest historic position):
Jarome Iginla
Lanny Mcdonald
Theoren Fleury
Brett Hull (Man its tough to leave Joe Mullen off the list)

Center:
Joe Nieuwendyk
Kent Nilsson
Hakan Loob
Doug Gilmour

Just show'in my age buddy!!!!
I saw Gordie play - and when he was still pretty damn good!!!!
About 8 or 9 seasons worth - and if it were between Godie and anyone, I would take him!!!! I was fortunate to have talked to him at our rink after our practices and before his - and he just loved to talk to us!!!!

But on the ice - I really cannot recall another player that was given as wide a berth as Howe was.

line 1 c-howie morenz rw-maurice richard lw-aurel joliat d-doug harvey d-newsy lalonde
line 2 c-jean beliveau rw-guy lafleur lw-toe blake d-larry robinson d-guy lapointe
line 3 c-henri richard rw-BB geoffrion lw-bob gainey d-serge savard d-jacques laperriere

goalies in no specific order
georges vezina, jacques plante, ken dryden, patrick roy

Rocket Richard, Beliveau, Blake, Harvey, Robinson and Dryden would be my choices if we're just talking about a starting 6. It's really hard to narrow it down to that though...great arguments could be made for just about anyone you named.

Yeah, good luck topping that.

I'm pretty sure Marko's LA lineup does. I'd even go so far as to argue that the Detroit lineup does too. ;)

I'll add my Canucks lineup here in amongst my smug comment :D

Goalie: Roberto Luongo
Left wing: Markus Naslund
Center: Mark Messier
Right Wing: Pavel Bure
Defense: Willie Mitchell
Defense: It's a tossup between Jovo, Ohlund, Lidster, Bieksa and Iron sled Dave Babych, among others. If I had to settle on one, I'd say Mattias Ohlund.

It's tough to leave out the likes of hometown heroes like Trevor Linden, Cliff Ronning and Kirk McLean, and even a guy like Cam Neely but the thread was asking to ice a line per position...so yeah :) I think Bure in his prime outdoes Neely and Linden.

Where's the greatest name in hockey history "Ed Beers"???? :D Seriously though, Flames fans have to come strong with Mike Vernon. The guy won you a cup after all!! :) Also where's Joel Otto on this list..:D

Lol, no shot at you Bruce!! I just put my personal things down and didn't want to hear it from anyone for not putting Gordie on there..:) He's the obvious choice but I kept it at who I've seen live..:D

Probably out back blowing bubbles :D

I'm going over Canuck career only and rewarding lenght of stay as well. I'd get Linden in at C which he did play for a number of seasons rather than Messier, reward the longer time Canuck over the short term, Linden had better seasons than Messier as a Canuck, and captained the team to better results.

Despite sharing last names, I'd probably have Lumme, Jovo, Ohlund, and Lidster, Butcher, Snepsts and Kearns above Mitchell at this time. Depends what you want from your D - I do think Mitchell is the best defensive player we've had in years, but he scores yearly, and the difference in his d vs a player like Ohlund who adds that much more in offensive makes me jump Ohlund jump ahead in my mind.

In net, Luongo/McLean/Brodeur..... Despite his lack of length as a Canuck, I'll go against my own rules, and go with Luongo, but if he gets injured or traded, I reserve the right to put McLean back in there.

LW - Naslund
C - Linden
RW - Bure
D - Lumme
D - Ohlund
G - Luongo (Murray Bannerman never let a goal in as a Canuck tho.....)

With apologizes to Shanny fans but how does he take a slight edge over a player who at one time was the best in the NHL if not the World?

I think that would be based on his imporatance to the Wings at the EXACT time he arrived. He was the piece to the puzzle. I could argue that he won one more than Forsberg - but that would be futile. I think - without going to the stat boards - that if you matched up Shanny's stats with the Wings to Forsbergs - that they are closer than you would imagine.

He was the sniper on the Wings - and yet he was also one of the protectors - and that was on a team that featured two pretty good 'toughies' in their own right. That is a dimension that Forsberg never brought...... he did his best work from below the belt:foottap:

Shanny was not the best in the league as Forsberg may have been - but he was damn close in talent levels. Considering he was the left wing on the left wing lock defensive system his offensive stats are dowright amazing.

Same... doesn't Barasso have some hardware at home that Fleury does not? :stanley::stanley:

And with that, Fleury gets :owned:

All kidding aside, I remember watching and cheering on the great goaltending duo of Barrasso and Ken Wregget, one of the best and unsung goalie duos
