ESPN reported that Bosh's agent told the Raptors that he decided on the Heat and that they could start a sign and trade. Apparently the Raptors were not happy as the Heat didn't have anyone they wanted. After the announcement yesterday the raptors have contacted the heat and Bosh's agent about doing a sign and trade. A deal may still happen, I guess Brian was trying to guilt Bosh into signing somewhere else.

Bosh screwed BC, the city of toronto, and the organization, by saying on live tv that he doesnt need the max, and would play for the heat for less money (ie, 5years not 6), thus taking away any need for pat riley to work anything decent out of a sign and trade. getting back our pick we traded in the J.O deal plus a nice TPE of about 15million, would of been suffice.Bosh left us with our hands tied.

Sports stars, actors, Musicians etc....You are generalizing. For every athlete that makes millions there are hundreds of thousand who make nothing or who never make it. Sure these athletes make crazy money and I think it is crazy but blame the owners or the FANS who pay the money to watch them and buy their merchandise (cards, jerseys, hats, posters etc..).

I also think that bringing up 3rd world stats or how much medicine that would buy really has no place in this thread. What significance do Chris Bosh signing with the Heat have on poor countries or poor people, really? There are a lot of unfair things in the world, do you always eat everything on your plate, do you buy unnecessary things? There are starving kids everywhere or poor people who don't have anything. It is a sad part of the world we live in. However don't blame someone for working hard and getting rich.

If Lebron signs in Miami as well, the players they have better get used to playing lots of minutes 'cause they aren't going to have the money to sign much else!

The system in the NBA is broken if the players are fully dictating where they play and how the business is run.

Think about it... Chris Bosh is potentially signing for $16,000,000 a year...

$16,000,000 requires 160,000 seats sold @ an average of $100 per ticket... that's 8 sell outs on it's own.

$16,000,000 requires 800,000 bags of popcorn @ $5 per bag, and 1.2 million beer @ $10 per drink

$16,000,000 is more money than the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of most African Nations (Yes, sports stars make more money than a quarter of the countries in the world)

$16,000,000 would purchase 2.67 million polio vaccinations

$16,000,000 is enough to pay 800 people a poverty line level wage of $20,000, or 320 people a good wage of $50,000 per year, or enough for 160 people to make the 'sunshine list' in Canada @ $100,000.

Consequently, if you make $50,000 a year, it'll take you 320 years to make what CB4 does in one season.

My point is, the whole pro athlete and pro sport thing is ludicrous when looked at big picture. Given the flavour of the soup, I'm not surprised the ingredients in it taste the same. I just wish I could stop eating it...

Bosh told Raptors management last year that he was uncertain of his future, the writing was on the wall. BC should have traded him just before the trade deadline, yet another big mistake from him. I still don't see hoe Bosh can be blamed. NO other player is being talked about a sign and trade deal. When is the last time you heard of that happening? The fans are blaming Bosh, they need to blame BC for mistake after mistake. If he put a better team around Bosh then he would likely still be there.

Vince leaving was WAY worst. He quit on the team. He played at about 10% and screwed the fans and the tream over. Bosh played hard right but to the last elbow to the face.

In the GRAND scheme of things, can someone tell me how this is different to Toronto fans then when Sundin left as a FREE AGENT?

Sundin didn't do anything for the city in terms of "keeping the franchise competitive".

Bosh is a FA with no strings attached, Sundin had the NTC and then the Leafs really didn't want him back especially at the market value that the Canucks offered him. Bosh wants out Sundin wanted to stay. The similarities is the poor supporting cast each team surround the 2 stars with.

I was just giving folks some comparative things to think about. I probably shouldn't have put it in a thread directed at Chris Bosh since I didn't intend it to be about him personally.

Pro athletes definitely work hard for what they get - I don't disagree; but I think it's ridiculous that it becomes a $96 million dollar payoff for any player. I realize it's tied to the economics, and there are offshoot benefits of jobs for stadium workers, etc, but when you figure the massive amounts of money that are tied up in so few hands for eash franchise, it makes you shake your head sometimes.

As to this case - hey, Chris Bosh has donated a lot of time and money to charity work, and I'm sure he supports his family and extended family. He's a good kid, and good for him for doing well for himself. But I do have to wear a bit of smirk when an athlete of his ilk says "It's not about the money". Yeah, making the choice between 5 years @ $19million per on a possibly great team, or 6 years @ $21 million per on a team going nowhere shows it's not about the money.

I wish Chris the best though - he did everything he was contractually obligated to do in Toronto, and you can't ask mush more from an employee.

This. The Craptors don't know how to close out games. They were the #5 seed at the trade deadline... you gonna move him out then? No, you can't.

They're LOSERS, just like every other sports franchise in Toronto, which I'm sure is just merely a coincidence.

Just ridiculous amounts of money. Salaries like these are the reason why ticket prices are so high. Most families can't afford to go to a game, that itself is sad and just wrong. I am not arguing that athlete salaries are crazy because they are.

I myself made similar comments about Jerry Sinfield just a few years ago. These people make crazy amounts of money.

I said it in another thread, but Miami reached sign and trade deals with both the Raps and Cavs (according to ESPN). Carter left because he doesn't have the equipment to qualify as a male but Chris Bosh left because the opportunity to team with two superstars, win a ring and earn millions pretty much tax free. In his shoes, I'd have done the same thing.

The only thing I don't like is that he's a role player now making max money. Miami is going to have to sell a hell of a lot of jerseys and fill their backcourt with minimum salary stars to really put fear into the hearts of the East.

I honestly don't care that much at all. I mean I would love Bosh to stay but if I were him and i knew that Bron and Wade are in Miami and they can afford me, Of course I want to play for the heat. I commend the three of them for being selfish enough to know they are the cream of the crop and are willing to play as a team to get the one thing they want most. A championship and of course 2nd would be the most amount of bling.lol

This makes me want to watch basketball next year. Moreso because I can't stand Kobe and I would love for another team to win it all. I think Boston is screwed next year..

By doing the sign and trades now, they can actually go over the cap up to the luxury tax line, since they obtained the contracts in trades and basically Wade's salary and possibly Haslem if they re-sign him. So if I understand this correctly, the hard cap is about $58M, but the luxury tax line is about $71M. So they have that much more room to work with. Between that and the mid-level exception, they can still put together a pretty good team.

Well, the Raptors got a couple of first rounders and money back for Bosh so not all is lost and Kleisza is a decent bench player. The Raptors also looked really good in their first summer league game if that means anything.

Rumors are flying all over the place right now. One has Looks like Turkoglu is done in Toronto and we'll be getting Barbosa in return and looks like Calderone is also on his way out with Tyson Chandler coming our way. Turkoglu has to go, but Barbosa is a bench player that is overpaid. Chandler is something the raptors badly need, someone that can rebound and block shots, so I like him as a player. Another rumor has the Raptors getting Boris Diaw. Good all round talent and can start at a variety of positions and he's familiar with Colangello. Interesting.....
