I don't post here often, but I have a question for Dr. Price, because I know he frequents these boards.

Where are these 00-01 Franchise cards coming from that this seller is selling?

These are just three examples. These cards should be serial numbered to 30 on the back, and this seller has several that have no serial number. There was a bunch of these cards for sale some time ago, but I can't remember who the seller was (if it was the same one). He had several non-serial numbered 00-01 Franchise inserts as well.

See my Franchises page for examples of the backs of the cards, which are properly serial numbered.

I'd be interested to hear Dr. Price's perspective on these.

Thanks,

As an eBay Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
The ones that came from the packs had serial numbers. Not sure where these sellers are getting these. The surface of the card would make them next to impossible to copy or fake.

I'm wondering if these were originally intended to be damage replacements that somehow got out of ITG's back door? I'm just speculating here...

I have no information to add, but I just want to say that these cards look great! I had never heard of this insert set before.

I'm workin' on a set. Honestly, hadn't been aware of the issue till myriadlim pointed it out.

I'm...concerned.

I'm concerned as well.

Until I speak to my staff I can't remember where these were produced. I am going to send an email to the seller immediately but I am doubtful that I will receive a truthful explanation.

If one of our supplier kept cards instead of returning them to us and then sold them, there will be hell to pay.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

i have the brodeur that i won on ebay from (bigboydsportscards3) about a year ago and it too is not serial numbered.
now i am really curious whats up with these cards....
how many of each of these cards are really out there??
my gut is telling me theres alot more than 30:(

I have a complete set of these. Not sure if they are numbered or not. Ill have to dig them out. Got them at Expo a few 'spos ago. I actually have 2 extra Ryan Smyths too.

The guy told me they were rare. They were a throw-in on a $1000+ deal and they looked like a regular insert set to me so I didn't "research" them at the time.

I'm eager to learn more.

I was going to list them up one if these days since they aren't really the kind if cards I sell at expo but if they are contraband, I might just keep them for myself now.

I did hear back from the seller, he is willing to help in the investigation, which I appreciate.

I really don't think he knew that the cards were unauthorized when he bought them.

I should know more on Monday when I check our records to see where the cards were printed.

I remember seeing a near-complete set with either you or Aaron (I think) at the expo last fall. Noticed that they weren't numbered, too. A couple players were missing (perhaps had been sold as singles). Interesting that there are at least two of these un-numbered sets out there.

Outstanding insert set, by the way. Would love to see this printing technology used again!

bigboydsportscards3..

Like propably many of you already known, this is seller who distorts the value of the cards facing up deliberately, this guy also use patch - word very often regardless is it patch or not. Does not respond.

Thank you for all of your responses and especially Dr. Price. Please report back when you know more.

I have a complete serial numbered set, but as someone else pointed out, I'm betting there are far more than 30 of each card floating around with all of these non-serial numbered ones popping up on ebay.

Here is what I have so far.

The eBay seller has been very helpful.

Once he realized that these cards were unauthorized, he removed them from eBay.

He also gave me the name of the eBay seller he bought the cards from.

Unfortunately, that seller has not responded to my email, so eBay will be contacted next week. I tried doing it the nice way but sometimes that does not work. Once eBay gets involved the seller can have some repercussions. That's why I send an email first and try and get the information need.

This week I spoke to the salesman at the printing company in Dallas that we used to print and pack that product. Although we don't use that company any longer, he now works for the company that still does our work in Dallas.

He recalls that the cards in questions were manufactured by a third party supplier and is checking to see if he can find out who they are and if they are still in business.

He also mentioned to me that he recalled that there were numbering issues as the numbers were chipping off the plastic. For that reason he remembers us keeping some of the cards in Dallas and when we had a customer service issue, we would email him the card numbers and they would ship is the numbered cards. We would destroy the damaged cards we received from collectors.

That's all I have at this point but I am continuing to investigate to see how this happened and how the sale of these authorized cards can be stopped.

Problem is that the cards were produced and distributed 11 years ago.

I will update this thread once I have more information.

bigboydsportscards3 has 7 more of these listed this week. They are most definitely not numbered. I should have kept track how many he's listed over the last couple of years. The Thornton came up in my searches over and over, and he's got another one listed this week (also listed one last week).

That is the eBay seller that we are trying to contact.

As mentioned above, if we don't hear back from him by Monday we will contact eBay about the matter.

Thanks mclean_m for your post.

Has never responded to any kind of questions. I'm a little bit surprised that he did not even respond to you Dr. Price.

We have talked to Dr. Brian Price and he is investigating accordingly. We did not receive his initial email. From what I understand, he got all the information he needed from us. I'm sure he will inform you of any details he feels are relevant. We are more than willing to provide any more information he asks from us if needed. In the future, we will be stating in the description that these cards are not serial numbered. If anyone would like to return cards for full refunds, they may do so.
