Offical 2014 NHL Draft Discussion Thread

Wait till you've got Briere playing 10 minutes a night and get back to me.

It's not very often that Habs nation soundly condemns the signing of a Quebecois UFA, but this one was several years too late coming.

Couldn't care less about this deal. We don't need more players like PAP on the Canadiens. We have plenty of fringe 2nd line players capable of 40-50 points a season that can't be relied on when push comes to shove. This is a sideways move because I doubt Parenteau will be able to accomplish much without leeching off Tavares for points.

Briere, IMO will do well in Colorado and probably contribute slightly more than PAP will to Montreal. Therrien is a difficult coach to play for. If you're not in his good graces, then you're on his s--t list. I think Briere will do well playing with skill, speed and finesse of the Avalanche.

I was going to say the same thing to you...wait until PA is a healthy scratch for 8 consecutive games and when he does play he looks like he doesn't give a flying ....

We all knew Spezza was going SOMEWHERE. The most interesting part of this to me now is how it affects the Paul Stastny market as half of the two best center options are now off the market?

Are the Avalanche now forced to drop a wad to keep Stastny as division rival Dallas just got MUCH improved and another division rival (St. Louis) is said to be in heavy pursuit of him.

If past performance is an indicator of future results, he will actually earn his money in the 4th year of this deal!

LOL.

Joking aside (or not!) now things get REALLY interesting in the Western Conference and Central Division. Colorado needs to respond as St. Louis and Dallas stepped up.

Big trade coming? Iginla? Vanek? Tick tock.........

No joking. I know you were watching a lot of Kings games over the last three years, but I was watching Avs games. Stastny wasn't worth the 6.5 he was getting paid for the majority of his contract.

wow...serious UFA frenzy. now highest paid player on Blues.

That is the main reason why he is not on the Avs anymore. There was no way that they were going to pay him more than Duchene. If you pay Stastny 6.5 you have to pay O'Reilly more than that.

Stastny was the 5th highest scorer on the team last year and most of the year he was playing with top six talent.

MacKinnon played "third line" minutes and with "third line" talent and score more points than Stastny.

I hate to see Gorges go, and quite frankly I don't think this is going to fare well in the locker room but he was the odd man out.

The dollars were a bit high for what he brought and he is near the bottom of our defensive depth for left handed D-men as we have plenty of them. Quite frankly, as well as he played in the playoffs blocking all those shots, he didn't do much else that well.

Tom Gilbert addresses the need for a righty on D and can contribute a little more offensively and despite what all the online GMs are saying about him, he's actually quite a decent bottom pairing defenseman.

Sad to see him go. As a Habs fan I'm glad he's not on the Leafs because he's a heart and soul player that any team would benefit from having.

I don't know much about this guy except that he was touted as "potential captain material" by some but then again everyone is amplified in their actual skills and potential playing in MTL or TO. Heard he was a good shot blocker as well.

Sabres starting to silently build something decent it seems. Maybe if he was potentially a captain in MTL he WILL be the captain in Buffalo?

Richard must be smashed right now, favorite player gone from favorite team. I know the feeling all too well with Rob Blake, though Blake got a Cup out of it and Gorges went to cursedville.

Shawn, I agree with you bro, Stastny got overpaid by St. Louis based on what he had been doing in CO. I have seen quite a few Avs games in person and he has been so sporadic in his production. FA years always change everything. He nutted up and got paid big like most guys do in the final year of a deal.

Hopefully the Avs make some moves so I can see even more Kings games in person in the years to come. ;)
