Taylor Hall Traded to the Devils for Larsson

Crosby got some help early on when Malkin showed up, the Oilers may have just traded their Malkin away. Signing Lucic might help, drafting Jesse might help, but trading Hall? That's a lot of scoring to replace. Cap space could have been freed up some other way.

A Center is much more valuable than a winger, same goes for a d-man.

Wow, not much love for Adam Larsson. It's not all about points, I think he was stuck in a system he wasn't 100% comfortable with as well. I think he's going to be a dynamite d-man in this league, it's not like they traded Hall for a John Merrill or David Schlemko.

Larsson will have to take the next step to become a 25 minute per game d-man. The Oilers front office is banking on that one.

Im a die -hard Habs fan..... here's my quick take...

Hall to NJ for Larsson- W.....T......F??!!!
Subban for Weber- Like it, as much as I liked Subban, Weber is better. 6 million in 5 yrs will be the average Dman salary so Im not really concerned with the length.
Stammer: I said all along he would stay...what a life down there!!! For the lightning, Stammer at 8.5.....please.....thats like highway robbery. Lmfao!!!!! The state of Florida helped Tampa on this gift bigtime!!

Chiarelli must think he is Stan Bowman or Dean Lombardi and building something.

Well he is building something alright, and the pile of **** is growing higher by the minute.

I'm honestly not sure if you meant S***, Co** or Cu** with this.

Also, he's like 25, how could he possibly be a charter member?

And wasn't Tyler Seguin (also traded by Chiarelli by the way) a member of this "club" too? He seems to be doing alright in Dallas.

Individual success, and there are other players in Dallas to try and reign in Seguin. Edmonton traded all of their veteran leadership away, allowing Hall to not only feel entitled off the ice; but on it.

devils fan here, big one at that.

A lot of people are selling Larsson short here. What Edmonton is getting is an emerging Dman with untapped offensive upside that is steller in own zone with an actual mean streak.
He plays d the right way and you'll be surprised at how well he'll distribute the puck up to McDavid and the rest.

I think N.J got the flashier player by far, but don't sell Larsson short.

This trade is a win win for both teams.

I like getting a young super stout defensemen ... but not at the expense of Hall, as, others have said, why not use Hall as an absolute last ditch effort, but maximize your return. I also believe picks should've headed to Edmonton. Not too thrilled about this deal for my Oilers :\

True, but to be fair right back he could have gotten significantly more for Hall.

He's definitely not fleecing anyone, or even tilting the scales slightly in his teams favor, when making deals.

If he could've don't you think he would've though. I had heard the Hall and Number 4 for Subban last week. But to get an elite d-man, you need to give up more than a top tier winger. D-Man, Center, Winger - 1, 2, 3 in importance.

Larsson is good. Quite good, even. But Larsson is not elite. He absolutely should have stood his ground and demanded a pick in the deal. Now that he's set the bar so low for his forwards, some of whom he may be looking to trade this summer if he's not finished, other teams will take advantage because Ol' Pete gives 'em away cheap. Not to mention making all other teams' forwards look cheap if other GM's are looking to move some in the offseason.

Read some reactions from the hockey press, you won't find many reporters who will call this a fair trade. It's not only us "armchair GM's" saying Edmonton gave away Hall for too little.

This is a tough trade for Edmonton fans to swallow but its a great deal for Edmonton as a team. Think of it this way, would you rather have
a.) Taylor Hall and Jason Demers at 9-10 million a year
or
b.) Milan Lucic (shot gun to McDavid) and Larsson at 8-9 million a year.
That is the discussion Edmonton made. Larsson is a 4th overall pick just coming into his own. He is what Edmonton needed! Was it tough to give up Hall? Yes, but they needed a good young dman to grow with the team.

The Oilers have given up the better player; it seems clear though that Edmonton wanted to change the culture of the team by choosing to trade Hall and his attitude out.

Not unhappy with the Hall deal - culture change was needed and I do believe he was a part of what had to be removed. In turn you get a D who I believe will grow to be a horse on the backend.

Oh well Hall is bitter - guess not being #1 dog in Edmonton anymore didn't sit well with him...
