Pastrnak Cup sticker auto

While he's no longer a PC of mine, I received a Jack Campbell Cup Auto Rookie redemption this week from 2013-14 with a sticker...was I happy it was a SEVEN year wait? No, but hey, into the set it goes, or maybe I'll get a premium since likely everyone else requested a replacement by now! lol

I'd love to see a scan! ;)

No card made and collectors whine and complain. Make it with stickers and collectors whine and complain. Seems like a no win situation for Upper Deck.

Well ya. They have some control over both outcomes. He signs - we know this because he has other lower end RC’s from UD signed - so if they failed to get his sig thats on them. And he obviously signed sheets of stickers.

The reality is they could have gotten these cards signed in the past few years and this is a big name player. Collectors that broke this product or bought these redemptions SHOULD be upset.

Lastly this is not a lose lose for UD, we have collectors calling other collectors whiners and crybabies for wanting a players premier card to be in the traditional format of the set. Its clear to me that UD can basically release anything and hockey collectors will gobble it up. They can’t lose in any scenario.

Hockey collectors are actually the most compliant collectors around. Last really game changing release was the Cup 15 years ago. Heritage sets, Chrome, Prizm? No we have Young Guns, Cup ARP’s and FWA.

Panini brought Prizm to hockey and everyone hated it. So the solution is bring it back? UD brought Pastrnak to the Cup in the only way they could and people hate it too.

I think when it comes to other companies producing hockey, it's not so much the exclusive stopping them, as it is why bother risking financial loss for a bunch of people who will just complain about whatever they put out anyway.

I thought Prizm was great. Nice shiny cards and quality card stock. It's the only base set I actually went out of my way to put together and I still have it in a binder. One season of it was such a tease, I wish it never went away.

DING DING DING

Does anyone doubt that the 97/99 McDavid The Cup RPA wouldn’t have sold for over $100,000 with a sticker auto in addition to it being a photo shoot piece? If expectations get lower every season so will the product quality. But somehow while that happens the price of every product continues to rise. How does a pack/box price rise when breakers are opening more than ever and the high end rookies like Matthews and McDavid are featured with photo shootout material in The Cup and stickers in other UD offerings.

Plain AND simple, with McDavid, he has an EXCLUSIVE with Upper Deck, so you will not see any sticker AU of his in their high end product BUT with Pasternak, the wait was over.
More to be said but .... that's all

If you don’t like the cards with stickers for autos don’t buy or collect them. If you are don’t like cards with photo shoot jerseys in them then don’t buy or collect them. If you are worried about the releases with those types of cards in them then don’t buy or collect them.

I get in this case collectors that were buying these redemptions were expecting hard signed but based on the one member who posted what he received as a bonus when he received them it was clear UD recognized this.

Anyone buying now that they are live have nothing to complain about.

I love when people speak in absolutes. How many years into the future do you guarantee that McDavid stickers won’t be used in a The Cup or higher level product?

Agree, I loved Prizm as well and think it would have evolved similar to how their BB products evolved. Classics Signatures was a great Panini release, as was Prime.

You do recognize that you are one of the worst on here in terms of speaking in absolutes, right? You can’t be that self-unaware can you?

Haha my thoughts exactly. A single card where the player wouldn't sign for years even in a pre-pandemic situation becomes a sticker, and all of a sudden it's doom for the entire hockey hobby. And then coming down on someone else for speaking in absolutes.

Doom for the entire industry? You don’t have COVID so don’t complain? I’m seeing some pretty ridiculous comments in this thread in favor of UD that don’t get a mention. As I said before the entire industry is moving toward sticker autographs. There are obvious economic benefits to getting a player to sit down and sign thousands of stickers versus having to ship cards all over the world or send out representatives to meet players and have them sign stacks of cards.

UD has had zero competition for over five years and it shows. Pointing out that a company’s premier product shouldn’t feature sticker autographs even at a last resort isn’t a crazy take. If this prevents me from a future UD Random Act of Kindess so be it.

All I can do is laugh at the absurdity of this take. A card from 14-15 released in 2020 has a sticker? It must be a sinister plan to make all cards stickers! You must be one of those types who feel Covid is some 1984 Orwellian nightmare.

And before you think I'm some UD sympathizer, the last pack of UD I bought was 03-04 SPx. I pulled a Tuomo Ruutu auto/jersey RC and traded it for some decent Marian Hossa cards, including an 01-02 SPGU Inked Sweaters, which I wish I still had.

The continuous personal attacks are unnecessary. The fragility of a Upper Deck fan knows no bounds.

I hope you didn’t take mine as a personal attack of in support of UD.

Mine was simply pointing out to collect what you like and don’t let the rest bother you.
