Let’s debate.
Here are the rules

2021 through to 2025
Name your future HOF
Detail stats on why they should make it

With the moratorium next year it’ll have to be 2022-2025 :)

Here are few that I think could get the call within that window:

Julie Chu
Alex Mogilny
Daniel Alfredsson
Daniel Sedin
Henrik Sedin
Henrik Zetterberg
Roberto Luongo
...and my bold prediction: Sidney Crosby will retire after 2024-25 season and will have the waiting period waived.

Apologies for not sticking to the rule about backing things up with stats, but that requires more homework than I’m willing to do between periods when Team Canada juniors are playing.

Cool. Who else has an opinion

I haven't thought deeply on it, but there are some obvious selections in Jaromir Jagr and Joe Thornton. Patrick Marleau may have a tougher time, but if he sets the record for most NHL games played, it will bolster his case considerably.

I think Lundqvist gets the call, as will Fleury but I'm not sure when Fleury retires. Hopefully Curtis Joseph gets revisited.

Tim Thomas probably won't get the call, but I would point out that Bill Durnan only played 7 seasons in the NHL and it's not held against him. Dryden played only 8 seasons. Both those men won far more Cups, but those Habs teams were a lot better than Thomas's Boston squads.

Mike

How Mogilny isn’t in the Hall of Fame already boggles my mind. He has the stats, a Cup, and was a dominant player in the 90s-2000s.

Keith Tkachuk

538 Goals, 527 Assists, 1065 Points

and all this while spending 2219 minutes sitting in the penalty box.

One of five American-born players to score 500 goals, and is the sixth American player to score 1,000 points. He is considered to be one of the greatest U.S.-born players in NHL history (as per Wikipedia) and was a dominant Power Forward in the 90’s (as per me).

His trophy case is a little bare, but he did play in 5 All-Star games and was elected into the USA Hockey HOF in 2012. I think it’s just a matter of time before he gets “the call to the Hall”.

Mogilny was the first to come to mind as soon as I saw this. Don't know why he hasn't been inducted yet. Began his pro career at 17 with CSKA and scored 15 goals in 28 games. 1.04 ppg average for his NHL career. 1,032 points in 990 NHL games. Tied Teemu with 76 goals in 92-93. Teemu did it in 84 games, Mogilny in 77 games. 1st Russian captain in the NHL. 6 time All-Star. Triple Gold Winner.

Would like to see Bondra get in, however not having any hardware is most likely holding him back. Seems like at one point in time 500 goals was a guaranteed enshrinement.

To add to my previous post, I think we could see Boris Mikhailov and/or Vladimir Krutov on the induction list at some point.

Interested to hear if anyone has any thoughts on other players who might make it based on non-NHL performance.

Recently retired: The Sedins, Pavel Datsyuk and Roberto Luongo.

On the cusp of retiring: Joe Thornton, Zdeno Chara, Henrik Lundqvist. Jaromir Jagr eventually has to hang em up as well.....

Off the wall prediction: Alex Ovechkin retires from the NHL as the all time goals leader but ends his career in the KHL and plays til he's in his mid to late 40's. Class of.... 2031 ;)

Let's guess shall we???

Matt Cullen
Nash
Sedin brothers... both in same year with Luongo .. make it a Canuck night
Zetty and or Datsyuk

My long shot would be John Orgrodnick on write in. All in all 402 goals should have him up there even without a cup under his name.

My long shot would be Chris Osgood

I think Chara retires after this year and gets in in 2025 first ballot? Offensive stats aren't eye opening and plus minus is okay (+288) for the career, but has the Norris and the Cup. Also, It is just hard to think about all those good Bruins teams and to not think about him just anchoring that defense...and I don't even like the Bruins lol...

And they should all be in the hall IMO.

500 goals should get you without a single other achievement.

Disagree, you have to consider when the player played. Verbeek was a great player but never even a top 20 NHL player at his peak. He never even made, first team AS and was scoring goals when guys like Leeman scored 50. If he played todays game he likely finishes his career closer to 350 goals then 500.

HHOF, IMO should equal competing for hardware, and generally being considered one of the best players at their position in the game for 10+ years.

i know its early but people will have their opinion on this one

correy perry

hes won at almost every level and a richard and hart trophy to boot

stanley cup champion
olympic champion
memorial cup hampion
world junior champion

he should be a lock

Games 1045
Goals 377
Assists 420
Points 797

Nope.

ill add my guy Patty Marleau to the mix

Games 1723 - 44 games away from passing Howe
Goals 526
Points 1188

Olympic Gold x 2
World Cup Gold
World Championship Gold

Not a first ballot - but HOF for sure

Yea thats fair. Anyone mid-90's and on that can muster up 500 goals should get into the hall.

I think I read that there will be no class of 2021 - so they can give the class of 2020 a proper induction ceremony.

I'll mention a few names I think will get in (soon) - but I need to qualify this and mention that I simply don't know enough about non-NHLers (i.e. Soviet stars), and I have a very hard to quantifying what makes women HOFers... not knocking either of these groups - I just don't really have an opinion on them, but I suspect we will see more woman, and more non-NHLers get in.

The Sedins seem to be considered a slam dunk, so I'll just go with that.... though I could argue there are some guys not in the HOF right now, that had more impressive careers. Zetterberg seems very likely too, even if it's not in his first year of eligibility.

Alex Mogilny, Pierre Turgeon, Kieth Tkchuck, and Jeremy Roenick should all be in. I think it's just a matter of time for those guys. Daniel Alfredson should probably be on this list too.

Theo Fleury, Pat Verbeek, Sergie Gonchar. There's solid arguments for them to be in, but good arguments against. Gonchar in particular, I can see getting in (better than Zubov, IMO).

What about Lecavalier? Damphousse? Probably right in line with Fleury & Verbeek on the cusp of being in that conversation.

There's plenty of long-retired "fringe" candidates. While I've never seen him on a "should be in the hall" list - Please look at Charlie Huddy's career stats & achievements, and then compare that to Kevin Lowe. There isn't a whole lot different, other Lowe's All Star game appearances. I'm not aruging that Huddy should be in the HOF - but Lowe's inclusion opens it up to a lot of other names, depending on the criteria you use.

Goalies, I can't figure them out. Luongo, I can't imagine he doesn't go in..... but I'm not so quick to say the same thing about Lundqvist.

I think Hank was one of the best goalies of his generation. He was a remarkable talent. I also can't find any reason to believe his career was significantly greater than Curtis Joseph's. Because he won a Vezina?

Chris Osgood is the other obvious goalie to talk about. Broke the 400 win mark, and has multiple Stanley Cups. Tom Barasso?

Back to Skaters.... I think Rick Nash, Patrick Elias, and Shane Doan will all be in the conversation - but I think Elias is the only one in that group that might get in.

From 2024-2025.... the list could includes anyone that I've already mentioned, and anyone who retires after this season (or next). I assume that this is the final season for Thornton & Chara, they're locks IMO. Marleau is probably playing his last year too - he's less of a lock than the other two guys, but is very likely I think.

Perry (for sure) & Getzlaf (probaly) are likely done within two more seasons. They'll get mentioned as possibilities - but I don't think we should call them locks.

Brent Burns, Duncan Keith, Zach Paries, Jeff Carter, Ilya Kovalchuk, Eric Staal, Jason Spezza, and Patrice Bergeron are all old enough that I could see them packing it in after two more seasons..... Spezza & Kovalchuk I expect will, the others I'm not as sure. These guys all have to be in the conversation - I think - but I would only consider Bergeron & Keith to be locks. Carter, Parise & Spezza probably are not getting in... Staal I think will, Kovy & Burns I'm not sure.

The goalies that have yet to retire: Fleury is a HOFer, for sure. Lundqvist I'm not convinced (as I already said) but he should certainly be in the conversation. Ryan Miller & Pekka Rinne are the next two winningest (active) goalies. I don't think either of them gets in. Price will still be playing in two years, so he won't be eligible by 2025 - but he certainly projects as a HOFer right now. Jonathan Quick is another interesting one.... but he'd have to really rediscover his game, and put together some strong seasons to have a shot.

So, in conclusion? From 2022-2025 there will be room to induct 16 more (male) players. I would suggest these will be the names:

D. Sedin
H. Sedin
Zetterberg
Thornton
Mogilny
Turgeon
Roenick
Alfredson
Chara
Marleau
Luongo
Cujo
Lundqvist
Fleury
..... and then one or two Intentional players.

I will add Ryan Smyth "Captain Canada" to the list, as he was always my favourite player between 95-06

NHL Games - 1270
Goals - 386
Assists - 486
Total Points - 842
PIMS - 976

Playoffs - 28-31-59 in 93 games

Represented Team Canada a dozen times, plus 6 times as Captain
Gold Medal Winner with Team Canada - 5 times, plus Spengler Cup Winner in 2012

Was inducted into the Order of Hockey in Canada - 2018
Inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame - 2020
