May just be a rumor, but I thought I would let everyone hear it and judge for themselves.

I heard this past weekend, and the source was about 80% sure that Upper Deck will be releasing the "2nd Wave" of 06 SPA in the 07 SPA boxes.

2 Auto'ed RC's per box
2 SOTT's per Box
2 numbered RC's per Box
2 #'ed inserts per box
2 Patches per case

UD wants to bring the Set builders back and SPA was their flagship so if it does happen there will no increase in price per box...just more pulls :)

I heard the good and bad about this, and things that UD should do before they do do this (ie release numbers of stuff already released) I imagine some set builders have paid a bit more for cards they figured are SP'ed (besides the annonced SP's) since some seem to never reach ebay, shows ect.

UD crapped the bed on 06 SPA and they admit it. I'll wait until I see it to believe it, but for the time being, SP Authentic hockey is a dead product in my books. Hopefully it's as loaded as we have heard, and if it is, people will come back. A LOT of folks were burned badly this past year.
 
I'm actually a little tired of hearing about 05-06. Luckily they can only go up with 06-07. If they do decide to pack in the leftovers that are Wave 2, I just hope they don't hype it as a huge feature of 06-07. There is already enough resentment still lingering. I'd also like to see Wave 2 noted as such, that way the book values (for those of us who use them) won't be completely out of whack.
 
What UD should do if they had any proper sense of customer service is give away the remaining auto patches in a world wide contest or something. Does anyone even care about last years set anymore?
 
If they add the remainder of 05-06 product to an 06-07 product they should have to mark it some how as an insert or that it was released in 06-07 year.That way it will not effect the values of the product that was released in the product year.If this happened you really show see an increase in the values of the real 05-06.
 
UD won't do that. That's too much effort for them to take the time to sticker each card (a la the buyback program). Right now there are a few of the common RCs that are selling for $100+, and only because of perceived scarcity. This release will even things out. You'll see a marked drop in the values of a lot of the RCs. This is the disaster that UD has created for themselves, and worse yet, for the collectors. Another valid reason why the exclusive needs not be renewed.
 
As someone only vaguely interested in this whole fiasco, more in the train-wreck variety of curiosity, did we ever hear what actually happened? Is it just as simple as "they forgot" to ship the product?
 
06 SPA 2nd wave did ship out but in very limited quantities. I myself cut my order down to 1 case instead of 4 given the disaster that was unraveling in the 1st wave. I suspect like everyone else, they cut their 2nd wave preorders drastically.
 
I agree with triple B. They dropped the ball and really have no positive options. I'm just glad that I didn't pay huge dollars for short prints. For those that did, I suspect UD is going to take another step back with those collectors.
 
I sure hope they pack out last years wave two. I am still looking for a bunch of cards from SPA last year that never surfaced. I also have a bunch on of 06-07 on pre-order and I would like to get a little better return than last year. Mike
 
"Crapped the bed" is putting it mildly. They prostituted the SPA brand name in the hopes of cashing in even bigger on the Alex and Sidney show despite legions of distributors, dealers, and collectors telling them that their plan wouldn't work. They further compounded it with the whole "waves" thing. Frankly, I believe that they lost money on SPA for the first time ever.

06-07 SPA is purported to contain 2 autographed FW, 2 SOTT, and 4 FW with an approximately even split between 05-06 and 06-07 content. The 05-06 is to be inserted without modification. This is solely my own interpretation gleaned from publicly available information as well as private discussions with certain high-level dealers and a couple folks at UD. I might be wrong, but thus far I'm only extrapolating what I've learned.

I'm still dying to find out what the price point is going to be...hopefully they don't try to make up ground by charging so dealers sell boxes for $200+.

If the boxes are really loaded, I wouldn't be surprised to see the boxes get up in prices, a la The Cup.

The boxes would start at a normal price for the first week, then the sellers would all say that their stock is over, and that their second order is way more expensive, and blablabla...
 
On one hand I feel bad for the people who shelled out insane money for the Toivonen, Lapierre and Eaves, but on the other hand, I sit back and laugh at the same people. They're the ones who seem to be complaining the loudest, yet it was solely their perception that drove the prices out of whack with the "Gotta-Have-It" mentality.

• Bee Hive – Orr Debuts here – 3-4 RC’s per box, 4 diff parallels of 5x7’s found only in hobby, 1 per pack. New themes of base set- this is a good product

• Fleer Hot Prospects, Hobby has 6 RC’s #’d to 1999, 2 GU and 1 Auto Patch per box – PLUS 1 Hot Pack per case with 5 Autos

• SP Authentic – HUGE for 06/7 – the wave 2 RC’s from 05/6 not released last year when they cancelled the second wave will be added to this release for even more value

• Parkhurst- not like last year – all Legends theme – Hobby version goes to 4.99 per pack but has 4-5 Autographs per box, and 5 Captains or Enforcers inserts – Case break yields 4 Salute to Captain Premium Autographs and 48 other Autographs! There will be a retail Legends product.

• UD Rookie Class Boxed sets ship in February – 2 mos earlier than last year

Possibly one other release? You are missing BAP Portraits, Sweet Shot... and maybe the other release is The Cup. As for SPA, UD murdered it last year. It'll be hard for them to make it up to collectors. They better not up the box prices...
 
Mini Jersey is sold out? I havent heard a single person say they cant wait for Mini Jersey, it sounds like a horrible idea and I would be amazed to hear its "sold out" anywhere.
