2017-18 - SP Authentic preview

I personally think buy backs are really cool.
think it's an awesome idea to do them, specially when they do buy backs for older stuff and add auto's to them.

I too love the buybacks. I have ever since they started doing them in the early 2000's. It's an SPA staple.

am I missing something spa sign of times aren't done heres from the link provided

Future Watch cards aren’t the only part of SP Authentic with a lot of history. Sign of the Times is one of the most recognizable autograph inserts in the entire hobby. These date back to the brand’s early days, not just in hockey but baseball, football and basketball as well. Sign of the Times cards have up to eight signers featured on a card.

Another set I am giving up on! Did the 15-16 and 16-17 versions but unfortunately the 17-18 with no auto version of the top two rookies doesn't interest me. Always loved the SOTT versions as well. Been collecting these sets since 03-04. Also gave up on SP Game Used many years back also.

It's sad that the SOTT are gone :( They made them for nearly 20 years, and the ones with multiple autos were special.

Where does it say that the Sign of the Times subset is gone? I don't see that anywhere on the site. Scooby1970 is right, his post shows that Sign of the Times should be in the product.

Plus there is no check list yet..... so not sure where this is coming from....

The ability to read is completely overrated these days:clap:

I think this will be a great product all round. Breakers will gun for the McJesus and set collectors will get the floodgates opened for the rest of the cards. Also the #1, 2 draft picks are not the top players. Seriously to everyone coming out just to bash the product go away with that attitude it makes the hobby and fan base look shallow and ignorant. No one knows who's going to pan out in the end. This is actually a very good move by UD can't wait.

The 'other autographs (not FWA) include:

2017-18 SP Authentic Hockey also contains a base Limited Autograph (1:216) parallel done in Gold Spectrum foil. Limited Auto Material (#/50 or less) puts superstars alongside their signatures and relic pieces. Adding to the inserts noted above are signed 1990-91 Retro Draft Picks, Authentic Moments (1:1,440) and Rookie Year Milestones. Other autographed choices include hobby favorites such as Global Chirography (1:576), Great White North Signatures (1:576), Immortal Ink (#/10) and Marks of Distinction (#/25). Autograph Retro Rookie Patch cards have just 25 copies.

2017-18 SP Authentic Hockey

A long-running line, Sign of the Times comes in Tier 1 (1:120), Tier 2 (1:2,304) and Rookies (#/99), as well as multi-player Sign of the Times 2 (#/25), Sign of the Times 3 (#/15), Sign of the Times 4 (#/10), Sign of the Times 6 (#/6), and Sign of the Times 8 (#/5) sets.

That comes from a trusted source.

I don't think is ok to call other people shallow and ignorant just for giving an opinion about a set. I can assure you that I am not collecting cards just for the money! I have been collecting for cards since the early 70's and have most sets completed from 51-52 Parkhurst until the 90's. I have also many sets from the 2000-2017. I totally agree that 1 & 2 are not probably the biggest names in this set, Boeser and others could have bigger careers. I have no problem with the design of the cards some of them look great and I am sure there will be some wonderful cards to chase. Because I chose not to use my disposable income on a set that I think doesn't compare to the previous sets (especially if SOTT was not in it which may have been misinformation) does not mean I or any of the others who have stated this are ignorant or shallow. Everyone has their opinion and mine is I will not be pursuing this set. I hope everyone that does enjoys it as much as I have for other sets!

I do see what you're getting at. But just as you have your opinion on the product so do other's. The "shallow and ignorant" bit could have been worded better and that kind of stuff is what stirs the pot. If you want to engage in a healthy debate keep your comments more civil.

Thanks!

The McDavid buyback is extremely cool, but is going to be VERY hard pull, and doesn't add as much value as a couple thousand auto Hischier or Patrick cards, IMO.

Fair enough I'm truly sorry for that. However bashing SPA for what is beyond Upper Decks control is not right. Especially when they did make a very good attempt to make up for it with the buyback. It may not make everyone happy but it shows they tried something and I believe some appreciation would send a positive message.
