habscards
Registered Trader,
Just another thought for any other fundraising thread. Maybe as a site we can sponsor a child. I have never looked into it but it is not that expensive.
I think we should keep the funds local in the Barrie area, as that's where the boys are from that triggered this situation. The food banks have the most effect on families and kids this time of year and the big children's hospitals have entire divisions for fundraising (not minimizing it at all - my daughter needed the BC children's hospital). I'd suggest we just send the funds to the Barrie food bank, on behalf of the boys - maybe even have them deliver it?
That's something I was thinking about a couple weeks ago, but that would have been best to co-ordinate with the boys when they came in for their boxes. Might be too late now, unless Wayne wants to reach out to the family, and ask them if they would? To have the boys hand it over to the foodbank would have been spectacular.
You are right, this time of year puts a major strain on supplies at the foodbank, with families struggling to put gifts under the tree for the kids, and increased hydro, and gas bills just to keep warm in the winter months, most have very little to put food on the table, and have to resort to the foodbanks for relief.
Short-term, I agree this may be the best choice to help many families this time of year. Whatever everyone decides is great, there really isn't a bad choice. Too many worthy causes, and not enough money to go around to help everyone.
We delivered a freezer full of food to a single mom a couple nights ago locally. The smile through those tears of joy was incredible. The food bank is the way to go for me, as it helps more than just one family.
Okay, I can't find any paypal address for Ronald McDonald House, so I'll just get a bank draft and draw out the funds to my account to offset the draft. I'll post a copy of the draft for everyone to see and then mail it off.
Weird, huh? I looked for it several days ago, and couldn't find it, either. I find it odd that these places aren't set up to receive paypal donations. There must be a reason why?
Probably fees. They likely have $0 fees with credit card companies as they're a registered charity. Who knows?
