Anyone else disappointed with 2020-21 UD Series 1?

You can take this as you wish, but these are the reasons, that I have moved on from Upper Deck Series 1 and Series 2. I was finding I was spending more then I thought I needed to for a complete set. Then to get the update set, I would either have to buy SP Authentic or buy the completed update set from someone.

I have now decided to focus on Vintage OPC. Yes it can be difficult to find cards in the condition I want and at times, I do have to pay for a graded version.

But, at least I feel the money I am spending is not being flushed away.

I had 36 young guns in my case that were badly miscut including lafreniere. Waiting to hear from upper deck to send them back

The packs are a pain to open. Looks like they still have lots of the industrial strength glue left. I dinged a few corners opening the packs. I'm using scissors to cut open them now.

Looks like a lot of qc issues. Rounded young guns, poor collation, missing hits. If there was an in person expo this year, it would have been ugly. Anyone get a response from UD or has anything been posted on social media?

I opened 7 boxes and there were 2 back to back boxes from the same case that contained nearly identical YG. I had one pack containing 2 YG of the same player too that came from a different case.

In 7 boxes I had 11 duplicate YG, one of them being a triplicate.

Ive read some comments that some people are complaining their YG have rough cuts on them like 80s cards. I didn't see that however I did notice a lot of base cards with them.

The product seems very rushed to me.the base inserts are just poorly designed, from the Saved by the Bell inspired Profiles to the
'is this a base card?" Predominant players,it seemed like minimal effort was put into design. biggest problem for me is the lack of serial numbering of all Case hit inserts across the board. From the Dazzlers pink to the die cut Worldwide's to all the Acetate Die Cuts,at the given ratio's these type of inserts were always numbered in the past.really makes a big difference hitting one of those case hits and realizing it's not in the least serial numbered, makes a great hit feel like a one per boxer. :foottap:

This. You can usually tell how much product they produce by the number of serialed cards you hit per case. This year they must've produce A LOT.

The price per box is insane. Even at the $110 CDN per box price I bought a case for. Now at north of $130 CDN per box, Im officially out. There's just no value in it at that price.

Yea, the value seemed extremely limited at $110 if you didn't hit a Laf... which is how cracking wax goes obviously.

No way I'm getting anymore at any price increase.

Unless you bust a case and get 3 Lafs (at the prices right now), you most likely are out money unless you score a HG or an Exclusives YG in there. No way I will be buying a single hobby box or two at that price; better to take a blow torch to my money. Look at that YG checklist. After Lafreniere, who is the other YG hit? Outside the Lafreniere, in a couple of weeks, I could probably put together close to an entire set of the YGs for the price of one box. No worries, the breakers will still make good on the product though.

I did notice that the cases I saw had a very small number of limited #d cards per case, like 1-2 but had more inserts and french cards per case. Plus aren't puck drops and day with the cup usually 1-2 per case? Haven't seen any of those.I've seen 1-3 french ygs per case and a couple of those suit inserts per case as well. So, looks like UD replaced the more desirables limited #d cards for parallels and inserts that are way less desirable. Also, certain cases are loaded with 3-4 autos. No thanks!! Plus one of the cases I saw all of the YGS had curled corners.. SMH!

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'm glad its not just me. I have that kind of luck most of the time. Cheers

The product seems to be total dog buns and I guarantee Lafreniere YG's will drop, especially once he actually plays. I question the value of a UDS1 break at the best of times, but UD breakers, could you please explain to me why you do it?

I might get a box just b/c there isn't much in the way of hockey products out there and other sports boxes are priced out of my stratosphere.

I wasn’t going to get any, but then I heard that it was allocated and the prices were going up before it hit the shelves. Then I caught wind of the huge bounty on the High Gloss Lafreniere so I had to give it a whirl. I drank a supersized cup of the kool-aid and loved it. The thing with S1 & S2 is it easy to move the singles in the first couple of weeks, even the doo doo ones.
At least I got some good cards and some Dallas RCs.

Still waiting on this year's product in the mail. However, I did bust a case of S1 last year in 2019/20. I did not get a full set of Young Guns. I was missing 4, but thankfully no big names.

So not getting a full set of YGs in a case is not a new thing for this year.

Just sorted my 1.5 cases of inserts...and I didn't complete a single insert set...not the portraits, predominant, debut dates, NHL Worldwide, not even the 15 card Debut Dates set...funny not funny...how is that even possible?!?!

Every other year I would complete the portraits set and sometimes multiples of the other insert sets.

Now I have only opened a couple of packs so I'm not speaking from experience but it seems you only get about 2 exclusives per case!!! Didn't you use to get 1 per box or is my memory out to lunch? If thats the case they have sure upped the print run lol!!!

I think it used to be that way years ago. Couple cases broken at my LCS only had 1 numbered card.

I busted a case of this over the weekend as well.

Collation was good in a general sense. No problems on duplicate inserts or anything. Base was on par for normal expectations. YGs were reasonable.

My biggest issue, 3 boxes missing YGs with two containing only 4 and 1 at 5. Secondary was collation of big 'hits'. This made for some swingy-boxes. Got 7 jerseys, 6 regular and 1 debut dates, in 4 boxes - 2 boxes with double regular, 1 box with regular and debut dates, and 1 with a single jersey. 1 box had 2 gold Predominant inserts. One box had 2 Blue Dazzlers and 1 box had 3 Debut Dates. I also disappointed to only pull only 2 numbered cards - 2 base exclusives. It seemed like most of my 'extra' hits were Predominant inserts or Debut Dates. The final issue was some of the same 'damage'. My Young Guns weren't nearly as rounded as some I've seen posted, but I hit 10 Oliver Bjorkstrands and 0 are undamaged on the back of the top left corner. No other card was as consistently damaged...

Overall a bit disappointing.
