You can have him. Obviously the last two Cup winners wanted nothing to do with him anymore. For roughly 800k more they could have kept Nolan who is not a cancer in the locker room.

Bottom line - spending $2M or so for broken down power forwards on a team that at this point can't afford to waste cap space is just not smart. Having been an abject failure since he left Vancouver, why even bother? Tell me that Keenan's fingerprints aren't all over this deal... which will probably be the ultimate deathblow to both him and Sutter by Christmas.

Can't believe it! Why sign a guy that every fan in the city hates? This should cause some confusion for orcapod. It'll be funny to see what Randy says. I now pick the Flames to be the most penalized team in the league this coming season. Hopefully "brut"tuzi's back gives out again before christmas.

My question is now, how many season ticket holders will cancel their tickets for next season - based on a quick survey of the office - there are about 10 tickets amongst 4 guys not being renewed - they hate him THAT much

And I'll bet ya anything that there are no less season tickets sold than last year. It will still be sold out, with or without your office buddies. I find it hilarious (and quite frankly, unbelievable) that someone would cancel tickets because of one player.

Apparently Iginla had a big input with the coaches about signing Bertuzzi to help the team. But hey, what would Iggy know? Him and Bert will work good together, and Calgary fans will cheer when Bertuzzi scores...I guarantee it. florida fans did, and so did Detroit and Anaheim.

Look at this way, it's a 1 year deal. If he's bad, you get your wish and he leaves town. If he's good, perhaps he signs a longer contract and stays for a while :)

Believe me, no one is more unhappy about this signing than me, but that's just the way pro sports goes now-a-days.

The only vested interest I have is that I love it from a perspective of an Edmonton fan - I just love seeing that Sutter is so set in his ways that even the Flyers are adapting to the new brand of hockey and are looking like visionaries compared to the Flames.

For someone who is making almost the same money he had when he got cut just boggles the mind - if anything, that should've cut his price since he's already getting paid a good chunk of the money that he was due.

That's actually not a bad contract. It's only a 1 year deal and he's getting paid 3rd line money. I know people can't stand Bert but financially he's getting paid less than Nolan and he's gonna do about as much.
Wings were actually interested in bringing him back but with the acquisition of Hossa there was just no money. So being a cancer in the Detroit locker room wasn't a problem.

im loving the deal..
we have a legit big body power forward who can play in front of the net now on the PP..

That's about all Bert is good for anymore. He was painful to watch on Anaheim's PP last year because all he could pretty much do was sit in front of the net and attempt to blot out the sun. Get used to seeing glimmers of Bertuzzi's former self. The problem will be that they happen way too infrequently.

Bertuzzi is a shadow of his former self, and will likely never regain his form from his glory year alongside Nazzy. Considering Tanguay practically got booed out of Calgary because of his 1 year, poor offensive output, (yet he outscored Bert), I shudder to think what Flames fans are gonna do to Bertuzzi, when the only intangible he brings to the ice anymore is a media circus that won't die down...

tanguay's a different story though..
he was expected to produce...specially with his 5 million dollar salary.
if bert can put up some decent numbers, he'll be a steal at under 2 million

I think that's the problem! If the expectations are realistic (more than 15 goals and a physical presence) it shouldn't be a problem for what they are paying him. Now if anyone is expecting 25-30 goals out of him that's insane.
As inflated as the salaries are 15-20 goals is all that should be expected from a 3rd line player.

Gotta agree with Aaron. I like the deal. Especially at only one year. I see him putting up similar numbers to "Old Man" Nolan yet at a lower salary freeing up space. If he works out great, look at extending the contract, if not seeya later.

Langkow, Iginla and Bertuzzi on a line together?
