As Buster Olney of ESPN has tweeted this trade is an all-time monster deal.

Confirmed: Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio, and John Buck to the Jays for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, and Justin Nicolino. Jake Marisnick is rumored to also be going to Miami although his participation in the deal has not been confirmed yet. The first nine players have been.

The Jays sure have seemed to address issues with their rotation and lead-off spot with one move.

EDIT: Catcher Jeff Mathis is headed to Miami, and it is still being rumored by multiple sources that top prospect Jake Marisnick and pitching prospect Anthony DeSclafani will be sent to Miami too.

2nd EDIT: The deal, pending league approval is as follows:

To Toronto

SS Jose Reyes
SP Josh Johnson
SP Mark Buehrle
INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio
C John Buck
and $4 million in cash

To Miami

SS Yunel Escobar
SP Henderson Alvarez
INF Adeiny Hechavarria - Jays 8th best prospect according to Baseball America
C Jeff Mathis
OF Jake Marisnick - Jays 2nd best prospect according to Baseball America
SP Justin Nicolino - Jays 5th best prospect according to Baseball America
SP Anthony DeSclafani

With this deal the Jays will be taking on an additional $160 million in contract money.

This deal was made possible because Miami doesn't offer no trade clauses in any of its contracts for any of its players.

Surprised Arencibia or d'Arnaud were not included.

By bringing Buck back to Toronto Greg Zaun was saying he fully expects one of them to be traded at some point later on the winter. I would rather see Arencibia go because I think, d'Arnaud is a straight stud.

d'Arnaud is star material...the Jays would be stupid to trade him but if they did, he'd bring a lot more than what is being offered in this deal (meaning, he'd have to be his own separate deal).

This is an AWESOME trade for the Jays and instantly makes them AL East favourites.

There were rumours that included Arencibia and Gose. Not sure if Miami passed up on them or if it was simply a rumour and were not on the table.

Also, Stanton is pissed off. Tweeted his displeasure. Bryce Harper responded to him and said he should join the Nationals.

Rumours are Nolasco is next to go.

I'm not familiar with Miami at all but I assume one of the players heading our way is a shortstop, seeing how our everyday guy plus our shortstop of the future went the other way, lol.

Dan.

That would be Jose Reyes. I think Marlins fans are pissed the most about him being dealt. He signed that big deal with them last season. What's funny is, the 3 big signings(Reyes,Buerhle, and Bell) from last season has been dealt after a season with Miami. Reyes has 5 more years left on his contract so that's probably why they were able to trade away the future SS.

Miami's opening day payroll this past spring was around $100 million. Their payroll currently stands at $16 million following their summer purge and the deals since the end of the season.

There has always been an argument as to who the worst owner in sports is; Donald Sterling with the Clippers in the NBA, Bill Bidwill with the Cardinals in the NFL. But what Jeffrey Loria has done should prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the worst owner in all of sports.

The audacity that he has shown in making this deal, reinforcing concerns that people within MLB had after their spending spree last winter is just stunning.

Was the Miami trade official? I saw yesterday that Selig was reviewing it. The deal should be fine but I think he is looking at what kind of situation Miami would be in with the fans(aka, with the outrage, are they back to having noone show up to the games). Also the mayor wrote to Selig.

I have not been this excited for the jays in a long long LONG time

Still not official yet; however, it is not believed that Selig will overturn the deal.

Glad to see the Jays making a splash in the off-season. I guess Mr. Anthopolous and the rest of the ownership group weren't kidding when they mentioned a 5 year plan to turn this franchise around at the last town hall meeting (not sure if that is the right term but it was a meeting prior to the season starting that had season ticket holders and others in attendance).

As for first base, Edwin proved himself when Lind couldn't stay healthy so he's likely to take it.

Been hearing Rasmus' name thrown out there lately. Possible trade involving him and Arencibia?

I don't see Rasmus going anywhere at all b/c when he was healthy last year he really produced some solid numbers. Arencibia on the other hand could land another top flight starter if you package him with josh johnson who i think might not stay a jay for that long either. AA is known for doing that kind of thing and since johnson is in huge demand, AA should be able to land something solid for him.
