Booing Phaneuf?

My fave play of his this season was leaving the point with no support to check Shelley and giving up a 2 on 1 which basically sunk his team's chances that game.

That and his stupid "Why you no like Dion?" face.

It is weird they booed him. I mean, I don't boo my garbage man when he picks up the trash I threw away :)

Dion got traded for a reason. Everything we hear is not true, but I also don't think it is all false. I think the people of Calgary expected huge things for Dion...he was going to be the next Ray Bourque or Scott Stevens. Both great D-men with Hall of Fame careers. When it became apparent Phaneuf won't ever come close to those guys, he became public enemy #1. I remember even before he got traded, lots of Calgary fans wanted him gone.

I love this interview the other day on Off The record on TSN. Go to the right side and click on December 14.

Also, I like Brian Burke, but him naming Phaneuf captain was ridiculous. I think it was a move to try and get Phaneuf motivated to live up to previous expectations. Time will tell if it pays off, but so far, I don't see it. Like the guys said in the interview above...it take more than turing the music loud in the lockerroom and chirping from the bench to make a good leader.

Why does everybody say that Phaneuf was a cancer in the locker room? I'm close friends with somebody who had the opportunity to work as one of the 3 Flames personal flight attendants for an entire season two years ago, and she says the exact opposite. She said actually, he was quiet and reserved off the ice, and quite naive more than anything. She really had nothing bad to say about him. This coming from a person who travelled with the team on every road trip, hung out with them at hotels, went to several of the games, partied with them, etc. I'd tend to believe her seeing as how she spent more time with the team than everybody on here combined...LOL

BTW, she says Brandon Prust was the nicest, Mikka Kiprusoff was the funniest, and IIRC, that Matt Lombardi was the most arrogant.

Because people would rather believe the Calgary Herald. I mean....if its written in the paper then it has to be true right?? Its amazing how many bloggers think they are experts on a situation based on what they read in the paper. Its nice to hear from someone who was actually around the players for a period of time.
Like I said, Sutter and cronies are working overtime....feeding their editorial buddies at the Herald as much made up trash as they can. But I guess most GM's would do the same after making a terrible trade like that....

So let me get this straight. A flight attendant knows what goes on in the Calgary locker room, and what she says is factual, while the head coach of the team spreads lies in the local papers to make a guy he didn't want, and traded away, look bad? Seems believable to me...lol. In case you guys missed it, local reporters have access to the locker room a lot more than you or I. I tend to believe that they see and hear far more than is ever written in the papers. I have no idea what goes on in their locker room, but sorry, neither does the flight attendant. I have worked with plenty of people who I like as a person, but can't stand to work with. People can be very different at work as opposed to away from it.

Well if he was half the "cancer" that everybody seems to think he is, then I'm sorry, but it would be painfully obvious outside of just the locker room. For the record, the chartered jet used to fly the team around is little more than a mobile locker room.....the minute these guys are on the plane, they're stripping down to their skivvies, icing shoulders, getting massages from team therapists, etc. So yes, I would tend to believe somebody who is that environment. And for the record, if any coach was so unprofessional that he feels the need to blab negatively to the press about a former player, and so insecure that he needs to trash him to make himself look better, then no, I wouldn't believe a word that oozed from his piehole.

I don't like Phaneuf, I've never liked Phaneuf, and now that he's on the Maple Leafs, I can guarantee you that I will NEVER like Phaneuf. I also think that both Sutters should be run out of hockey and never let near an NHL team again. I just find it humorous that otherwise seemingly intelligent people are so quick to believe whatever rhetoric is spouted in a local paper like it's gospel. The last I heard, Toronto is the center of the hockey universe, and although Phaneuf has been in T-Dot for almost a year now, I haven't heard any such complaints from the fans, his teammates OR the media surrounding the Maple Laffs. If he was as bad as some would have you believe, it would have been front page news by now, don't ya think?

I indirectly know Robyn Regehr. (I know one of his best friends) and he was certainly no fan of The Dion.

Even from his junior days the word was out that Dion Phaneuf was/is a me first, grade A A-hole.

That sort of thing can mellow with age.
