That card is flippin' awesome!
I really enjoyed watching Phelps destroy his competition in the pool.
Hopefully one day, I could pick up an auto of him.

No hard feelings Brian. It's a Hawaii Michael Phelps Auto #/10 that sold for over $4,000. A staggering price imho. Mike

Unfreakinbelievable! Jees... the guy does a few laps of a pool and his cards go through the roof? Imagine if he actually broke seven world records and one olympic record too! Oh wait...

Agreed. It is his 15 minutes of fame. Or perhaps 15 weeks... My guess is his autos will cool off a lot in a few months.

He's 23... he's obviously going to make another appearance at an Olympics and will likely continue to post world-record times. I'm not sure I agree with the "cooling off" perspective. This kid is the real deal.

Oh he is the real deal and I expect another spike in 4 years after the next Olympics, but trust me there are a ton of those Donruss autos out there and eventually the demand will dip a bit..... Already this week they went from $700 right after he won his 8th medal to $400 currently. That is already quite a dip.

You would think he'll be around, but Ian Thorpe retired from competitive swimming at 24, so Phelps isn't a guarantee for 2012, until he actually suits up. There's also four years of being out of the spotlight.

Honest question. Do you guys really see him as the top guy right now? From this side of the pond the media focus has been much more on a certain Jamaican runner.

Must be our countrys media bias
