I wonder what other teams will have to shed salary. Boston? LA? It's going to be an interesting summer!!!
Columbus is tight on cap space and still need to sign Seth Jones and William Karlsson. Karlsson won't cost much but Jones will who is rumored to be wanting a long term deal and not a bridge deal. That will make things difficult for Columbus. They tried trading Hartnell in the Jones deal. Tried trading him at the deadline(again with Nashville) and are still trying. It was reported this week(or last week)that Hartnell expanded his list of teams he's willing to go to. Also, Columbus thinking about buying out Tyutin. One thing they won't do is package the 3rd overall pick with a bad contract and make a trade. But Jarmo could just be saying that.

Who does CBJ have that could be causing them to have cap issues?

They have 9 players making at least 4 million per season : David Savard, Bobrovsky (7.25), Clarkson, Tyutin, Saad, Dubinsky, Hartnell, Foligno, jack johnson. Almost 48 million on those 9 players

No wonder that club is in a black hole.

Mismanagement is definitely a huge part of the issue. As a Leaf fan i know that one all too well (besides the last year or so). Having made a wrong decision and handed out an anchor contract (or 3) can wreck a team way more than ever before.

And don't forget the over payed 4th liners/extra body in Campbell and Boll. Wouldn't sign fan favorites and better players in Mackenzie and Letestu but signed Campbell because he had experience in winning the Cup. Players like Clarkson, Campbell, and Boll are preventing the young guys like Rychel(most likely traded thsi Summer) and Anderson from being with the big club full time. On top of that, in limited time, Bjorkstrand proved he belongs in the NHL and this years draftee could be ready as well. So they would have to create space for them. Foligno was coming off a career year and was set to be a UFA when he got his contract. So it was either lose a key player or over pay him. Not getting insurance on Horton is killing them as well. Not sure why they were planning on getting a year later, rather then getting it when he signed the contract.

I watched Bjorkstrand in person many times when he played for Portland. He had that "it factor" where you can see his hockey IQ was through the charts. You could tell he would be an NHL'er, not saying he is a 50 goal scorer by any means, but he could be a productive 2nd-3rd liner no problem. Everyone was so high on Bittner and Petan from Portland, but I think Bjorkstrand will be better then both of them.

Hopefully he does better. They also drafted Bittner last year so all they have to do is trade for Petan and reunite the trio. One thing that concerns me about Bjorkstrand is is size. Might need some more muscle.

Ouch! I think the Vegas team is already ahead of these guys towards the pursuit of a winning tradition lol!

I wouldn't worry about his size, he plays bigger then he is and he has a mean streak too. He's not afraid of initiating contact or getting dirty in the corners, hopefully he plays the same way in the NHL.

Bjorkstrand has a nose for scoring. Knows to be in the right place at the right time. He could put on a little more weight, and get a bit stronger, but he's close to some solid NHL minutes. Put with the right line mates he could really complement a line because of his skill set. Saad-Jenner-Puljujarvi, Foligno-Dubi-Atkinson, Hartnell-Wennberg-Bjorkstrnd. Jones - Werenski, Savard - Marray, Tjutin - JJ.

Clarkson will probably have to bought out or traded to some team that's looking to get to the floor.
