Conference realignment aborted

Yes - but still terribly unfair for both the Wings and the Blue Jackets to be in the West.

Detroit made the move at the request of both the league and the new teams in the West to help them. Now the short memories are taking over.

Maybe they should do a revolving conference. Pick two teams from the East and put them in the West each year and see how they like it. Detroit and Columbus getting the shaft again! Brutal.

I really liked the idea of the four conferences and was really excited to see how that would all pan out - there would have been some great rivalries built as well as the ability to see every team every year.

Outside of the Florida teams I struggle to see why anyone would really be against this deal - other than simply hanging onto the status quo. Oh well - we shall see what it all turns into. Looks like we will continue to cater to teams that can bus to all their games.

It's the first salvo in the CBA negotiation - plain and simple - the beginning of armageddon between Bettman and Fehr begins...

Great ....half of my road games starting at 9:00 and 9:30pm again....... S U C K S !!!!!! I am really thinking of dumping my season tickets now. :| :badmood:

Curt - am I not getting something here? What is the correlation between ROAD games starting late and your HOME game season tickets?

It does appear as though they are willfully ignoring what happened last time, not to mention the marginalization that the NBA has experienced from their labor standoff.

It's more a "my season tickets pay your salary, NHL Players....and now you stab me in the back by blocking the realignment".

I really wanted this realignment. More games in my time zone...I can watch road games on TV more. Now I'm stuck with dang 8:30/9:00/9:30pm start times for all my division games again (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado). It really hurts the Wild by flying that distance and time zones. Players from those teams will tell you that. Wear and tear on their bodies and minds. Why do you think players go back to Eastern teams to play? Because the travel is quick, they are always in their own time zone, and they can sleep in their own beds.

And I wanted the old Minnesota Norris Division rivalries back (Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis)...and Dallas.

That is my reasoning...stick it to the players where it hurts most....their paychecks. The fans leave and so do their existence. I've had to deal with being in a division with no teams in the same time zone for 11 seasons. Have always hated it.

Just been a stressful month personally....and the NHLPA vetoing the realignment just struck a nerve last night and I lashed out at the players with a "cancel my season tickets".

Give me a few days to recover, the love for hockey will come back, and I'll get over it.

Here ends the rant........

Yeah, it's such a great idea to leave the Jets in the SouthLeast...

... Fehr/Bettman... that's one of those fights where you hope they both find a way to lose.

On the radio today Elliotte Friedman said that the main reason that the PA rejected the realignment was because the league didn't agree to have a best of 1, or best 2 out of 3 between the four and five teams in each conference. Apparently the league refused to make the concession because they had gone to the PA asking for some input, and a proposal to consider and never got one. So what this comes down to is pettiness on both sides.
