I've noticed there are a lot of assumptions being thrown around out there, particularly towards me. Because I feel the need to defend myself I'm going to give you all a quick run down. I will also try and make this short and sweet since, I'm not going to waste my time responding to some of the critical, opinionated comments. With that said, I did break a case of Prime early. No it was not an insider deal, my LCS happened to get a few cases in early and there was no disclaimer on the cases that said DO NOT OPEN TIL FRIDAY! I was under the impression that all or at least most cards stores got their product in yesterday as well (see earlier post)...

Trust me I felt very fortunate to open up a case early. You really think I'm going to believe you would not do the same if given the opportunity? I broke the case live last night via sportscardforum.com I was going to post up the results here as well but with all the negative feed back I may reconsider. Might I add that everyone over at SCF was very friendly, involved and considerate. I feel that I'm sticking out like a sore thumb here but my intentions were not to offend or upset any one. I've been looking forward to busting this case for a long while now, like the rest of you. However, understand that I did not bust the case "early" to become the center of attention or to be the first one to do it! I don't care about any of that, I just wanted to share the fun and excitement with all of you and maybe get some of you pumped up for your packs/cases because as you can see there is lots of nice stuff to be had! Any way, the folks over at SCF got that...Now, I hope that you do as well.

Lastly, for those of you who don't like my prices on Ebay, I have an easy solution for you - don't buy anything! I'm not sure if you knew this or not but the beauty of a BIN w/ a BO is that the listing price is not set in stone! You can offer whatever you want and hey, I might just accept that offer! It's funny how the people over at SCF were encouraging me to throw my cards up on Ebay and some people here are hell bent over it! lol I guess you can't please everyone...Okay I'm starting to ramble now...That's all!

Well said....And hopefully you can get some good coin for your stuff

I honestly have no problem with an early break. If an LCS wants to move there product early and a customer wants to open it. Then so be it. I have been in a similair situation where I was fortunate enough to open a product a day early. I posted everything on the forums just after midnight and didn't post to eBay till the following day, but still took heat and it actually got traced to my LCS where they took some heat from whoever.

Like Ryan said if given the chance, most of us would take the opportunity to open a day or two early. Knowing that Panini's Hockey Brand Manager is here on HI and on other forums. I am curious to know what his thoughts are on this?

Ryan and/or Lindsay,

I guess I read the comments a bit differently than you since I'm not the one being discussed. I wouldn't take any of it personally.

Whenever someone is able to open product earlier than "the street", there's always comments made, however un/warranted they may be. It happens all the time in baseball and basketball where Asian buyers get products in their hands a day or two early. There has been a S&T here already and they haven't been criticized. Perhaps the LCS may get a talking to from Panini, maybe not. In life if you're a good customer, more times than not you get preferential treatment of some sort. Some may say it's not fair, but neither is life.

As for the pricing discussion, definitely don't take that personally either. When you're going to rip'n'flip, you can charge higher prices. Why? Because not everyone in the hobby will wait for prices to go down, for whatever their reasons. You are catering to that segment of the market. Nothing wrong there.

Good luck on your sales!

Considering the distributors have had the product for a few days now and obviously some cardshops had it early, I wonder why the change in release date from 29 to 31?

Other than that, who cares....?

I wondered the same thing. We were told we couldn't get product delivered to us until Friday, and we couldn't.

I don't blame you for opening it, but there's no good reason for your LCS to have it early. I'm not saying there was any evildoing by evildoers (said in a George Bush voice), but it shouldn't have been there.

It's not the wax breaker's fault for opening and selling his stuff early. I don't even blame the LCS. If anything, the distributor is to blame for shipping out before release date. End of story

Dude... opening product before its release date is not cool... and to put everything on ebay is even more uncool... and admitting it to a thousand hard core hobby fans is not smart. Your LCS and his distributor could get in a lot of trouble for that.

On the one hand, tomorrow when the product goes live, everybody (read: collectors) will forget that someone got it early and turn their attention to their own breaks. It's the "damn I can't have this yet, but look that guy has it so let's get him!" effect.

On the other hand the dealer/distributor could have a lot more on the line than John Doe collector. If you do break product early it's probably best to keep it on the down-low until release date for the sake of your dealer/distributor. If being the first one to list the cards to make an extra buck is THAT important, well, just remember who is taking the risk by selling the product to you early.

If the stores have any concerns whatsoever, shouldn't THEY make sure no product leaves their premises before release date?

Hate to disagree with you on this one, but...

We received our cases of Prime today. And it went right into the back room, outta sight - outta mind.

Now when Friday rolls around and the regulars swing by on lunch break, we have the product available.

And most importantly, we're not wondering when it'll finally show up - 1 o'clock, 4:30 or worse, Tuesday.

It all comes down to greed. People want to be the first to open, first to list, just to try to ask 10X value for cards, if not more. Pretty sad. Anyways back to the original topic, pretty sweet looking card I came across on ebay:

They should, and most probably do, but others probably think that money today is even better then money tomorrow.

Last comment I will make in this no longer enjoyable, targeted, and highjacked thread:

First of all - I am a consumer, not a business. I received nor signed a waiver saying I wouldn't open this product, I recieved no warning to not open these packs, nor did Panini call me, email me, send a smoke signal, and tell me no. I paid very good money for a case of cards that happened to be delivered to me on Wednesday. I am not going to stare at a box I have looked forward to since its announcement just because Clouts and Chara and DA Cards has it listed for Friday.

I fail to believe that any one of the regular consumers (not businesses) wouldn't open their packs if they had them in their hand. To tell me otherwise, is laughable.
To members like Joe - Im not out to be cool or impress, I am out to enjoy the hobby the way I have made it enjoyable. We break for the thrill and rush the love of hockey cards give us! The thrill to pull a rare card from a player and a sport we love to death.

And a parting note to those of you who say its greed - Its capitalism. If someone wants to buy it theyll buy it, if they dont, they wont. I fail to believe that you hate money that much that you dont want to make as much as you can for something you want to sell. Thats like saying, I have something I can sell for $100 but because I am not greedy, Ill sell it for $20. No you wouldnt.

This is my hobby, play the game you want , but everyone should have the freedom to enjoy it as they wish, and be fair enough to allow others to do the same.

I thank those that PM'd me with their kind words and comments about the break. It was an incredibly fun :)

I know the guy he got the case from and Ill say he had to get it when he did as he is next to impossible to get ahold of and has the oddest hours when he decides to be open......

You paid for it. It is yours to do with as you like.

End of story.
