Ebay Scenario,... what should I do?

I recently sold a Hejduk Signature Logo #1/1 to a person without feedback. His Paypal UNVERIFIED address is in Slovakia. He has paid me the full amount plus shipping; however, he has told me that his account is VERIFIED which it is not on my end.

I am too worried? Or should I be that concerned,... I'm thinking about having us mutually decide not to do the deal. I worry abotu chargebacks and getting screwed out of ~$300. :confused:

Umm - I think you better check with Paypal on that one Chris.

As far as I know with Paypal - they only accept proof of delivery to VERIFIED Paypal accounts WITHIN the US and Canada. I do not believe that they accept even proof of delivery (ie: Registered/Express Mail from the US and whatever the same is from Canada that has actual tracking) to anywhere else at this time. Last I looked - it was in the works to accept it - but not yet.


I have no problem shipping to Unconfirmed addresses in Europe but I would not do so to someone with no history on Ebay. just my $.02.

S - you need to check the Paypal regs for Canada - as they may be different then they are for Chris and I in the US.

I would negotiate with the buyer to return the paypal, and have them send a money order, and deduct 5% for their trouble.

In the end though, if there was no mention of requiring a verified paypal account in the auction(I am assuming here, not stating as fact) then you're euchred, and I'd say you don't have a whole lot of options other than to decide to either take your chances, or take your negative.
 
I agree with Bidds55. It was up to you to cover your bases in the auction description. Paypal is unable to confirm addresses outside of US/Canada so any payments from outside are subject to possible chargeback. That being said, play it safe, send it via registered mail, and cross your fingers. I have never had an issue with Europe buyers, I think the odds of anything happening are pretty slim.
 
i'd scrap this one if they wont send you a Money Order. Worst you can do is have to resell the item which I am sure you could do without a lot of issues. If it were a small time card I would give it a shot, but its not. Protect yourself first.
 
I am pretty sure that with eBay's new rules it says that any address in the Paypal system is now considered VERIFIED (finally those lame nuts). They also said that they were going to add a few more countries to Canada/US list in which Paypal would offer insurance.

Starting in February, PayPal will dramatically improve seller protection for PowerSellers.

After reading it - I guess that it is targeted towards PowerSellers - the part about confirmed addresses. That definitely blows for your everyday seller - why should the address be different for them? If it is in PP's system - it should be frickin' verified - PERIOD! It doesn't matter to us as we are PowerSerllers but it is still a crock o' youknowwhat for the little guys.

I would suggest registered mail with an AR card - advice of receipt card. He not only has to sign at the PO, but he signs this card which comes back to you. In the event of a potential PP chargeback, that card should come in fairly handy.
 
I am in the same boat and I asked the woman at the PO today if there was registered mail for shipping to Norway(where my bidder with a zero rating and unverified address is) and she said that registered was NOT an option for overseas. She told me all I could do was add insurance and if it doesn't get there "for some reason" I would get my money back. But, thinking about it now doesn't insurance protect the person I am shipping to not me?
I would scrap it or ask the person to get their paypal confirmed. If you find a solution lmk please ;)

That may be the case in the States, but in Canada - you can ship registered like Steve suggested. I know it came in somewhat handy with a case in the US a few years ago.

I ship packages registered to Europe regularly.
 
Hmmmm....I think I may have to go back and ask her again. I told her what it weighed(about 8 lbs) and no options came up on her screen to add registered or tracking.
Guess I will have to ask again.

Your Postal person does not have a clue what they are talking about - period.

You certainly can ship registered to Europe. Max Insurance is pretty low - around $20-$38 depending on what country you are sending to.
Find another Postal station.

To clarify something I just checked the USPS website and clicked on international shipping to Norway. REGISTERED mail is ONLY available on first class shipping. In most cases a larger weight or size of a package, such as mine, first class shipping is NOT an option....it HAS to go priority or express and then the registered option goes away.
At least that is what I have found out from the website. If anyone can find anything else otherwise stating that it can happen please PM me.

Sorry for highjacking your thread....just wanted to add some thoughts to your predicament :)

Bubble Mailers still qualify for 1st Class Shipping!!!!
There is just an oversize charge.

It weight 8 pounds(its a Crosly antique pay phone that can be used for land lines)....not sure of the measurements.
Pretty sure I have no way of covering myself until the buyer gets verified or confirmed.

That's ludicrous...If you didn't specify that you needed a verified address, 10+ feedback to bid, yadda yadda you should be sending him the card. If he read the complete item listing and there was nothing telling him he shouldn't be bidding on the card, that isn't his fault. Certainly see if he's willing to send a MO, and absolutely send with some sort of insurance/tracking. If you expect the buyer to live up to the terms of the auction, it's not unfair for the buyer to expect the same from you.
