Eichel's Cup Rookie

Buy 99 auto cards in the secondary market from leaf products and either heat remove a sticker auto or use a cut auto - they should be able to do this in principle if leaf is buying up mcdavid yg for a future release.

I agree. This is what happens when companies have player exclusives, it was only a matter of time when someone in hockey gave UD a dose of their own medicine. It sucks for collectors, but it is what it is. We know Eichel will not have RC autos, so I would like to see UD roll with the punches and "give back" a bit to the collectors with his Cup RC seeing as how their player exclusives (and unwillingness to work with Leaf) has caused this fiasco. Give more people a chance to own his best UD RC, make it /199 or /249, and I think you will see more people jump in and buy them. Even without an auto the /99 versions would sell for big money and a lot of collectors may not be willing or able to shell out that kind of money. If it's /199 or /249 the prices will settle into a very reasonable amount and collectors will be happy for the most part.

I agree with this. Doubt UD will do something like that though. I don't think its their way of doing things. Especially on such a high end product. But hey I could be wrong, almost always am haha!

Forgive my ignorance - have not read anything about the epacks yet.
Are the epacks still packs of The Cup??? Or are they separate from the stated release of it????
 
Lets all just hope Upper Deck doesn't make it a freaking redemption to buy themselves time to get an autograph deal with him.

I would say patch autograph /99 is the only way to go.

Yes UD could work a deal with Leaf . But according BG he said they told him no deal.

I feel either way a Nice Patch rc /99 or possibly lower will do amazing . Just make it stand out and with nice patches no one color's all 3 or more ?

This is ironic as many times in the past that has been the mantra of UTG and Leaf, to do all they could to deliver the best cards possible with no licensing.

As big a fan as I am of their products, UD has gotten lazy here and there so it would be awesome to see them got the extra mile for collectors and secure an Eichel gamer for this product. Eichel is a generational talent, make no mistake about it, this guy has to be in all products just like McDavid. I spoke with a person who works with the Blackhawks recently and he told me the gap between McDavid and Eichel is as slim as any he has seen between two highly touted rookies following the previous summers draft. Eichel WILL be the face of USA hockey soon with Patrick Kane (and Dylan Larkin!) and Buffalo will be a great team because of him.

I also think differentiating the card a bit from the other /99's may be helpful. Maybe the same design and patch window size on the /99 version, but a foil color variance around the patch window with a small "GAME-USED" stamped underneath the window? And maybe in addition an oversized version of the gold patch parallel /15?:confused:

In the end UD really SHOULD go the extra mile and hopefully will come up with something brilliant to circumvent the situation.

Yup, BETTER be game used. The excuse for not having game used stuff is that the cards need to be made early in the season and sent to the players for signing. Obviously, there is no signing related contingency here.

Game used for Eichel? you can always hope for it but it will not happen. even Leaf doesn't have a game used of the guy and has an exclusive with him. so his cup RC will not be auto and not game used...
I would make him out of 249.
 
Just a thought, but a nice patch, combined with the "EICHEL" off of a stick (even if not game used) where the autograph would be, would be sexy as hell.

The empty space where an autograph belongs should be filled with something nice.

Apparently UD has a new deal with the NHL that allows them to obtain five or six game jerseys of their choice from every NHL team. It's entirely plausible that UD could have an Eichel already.

Wouldn't UD be opening a can of worms if they all of the sudden used a TRUE game used jersey for one of their premier product Rookie Cards.......... when almost all (??) have been 'Event Used' in the past?

I mean you have been feeding me basically fake jersey's for the past 10 years and now all of the sudden you want to make it up to me because you were beaten to the punch with Eichel's Autograph rights...

I just do not see this ending well no matter what they do.

My best solution is to buy 99 Leaf certified Eichel Autographs and make cut autos out of them. it would be cheaper to buy the auto's than buy a couple of jerseys to get 99 patches out of.


That way your customers are still getting what they have always had - a hard signed certified auto and a crappy Event Used patch.

I offered to share Eichel and McDavid and they didn't even professionally reply.

I wouldn't sell them 99 at $1000 per.
