First-round order for 2014 NHL Draft

The first 13 slots were set by the NHL Draft Lottery, which was held April 15 and won by the Florida Panthers.

In addition, the New Jersey Devils were awarded pick No. 30 as relief from an earlier penalty for circumventing the salary cap when the team signed Ilya Kovalchuk in 2010.

Here is where the 30 teams will pick when the first round of the draft starts June 27 at Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia:

During an interview Jim Benning stated that they have had conversations with the Panthers about obtaining the first overall pick.

Who hasn't at least talked to Tallon about the first pick...?

Maybe not Buffalo or Edmonton, but other than that....

So the news being reported is Marleau is being shopped and there are 2 offers supposedly given to the Sharks. First was Brad Marchand for Marleau which is a strange trade for both parties. Second offer was Leddy to replace Boyle for the puck moving offensive minded d-man, and Patrick Sharp. The Hawks want a real second line center but they want the Sharks to take salary back for taking on Marleaus cap hit. The Hawks asked for Marleau and a 2nd or 3rd round pick this year. Seems like good trade for both teams, Hawks get the center they desperately need and make room for the two studs on the farm ready to play in the NHL. sharks get the offensive dman to replace Boyle and the solid forward to replace Patty's scoring. But as we all know, the trades that make perfect sense never happen.

The Canucks are super high on Reinhart. Not sure what more Tallon would be looking in return to move down 5 spots. Canucks should have tanked when they could have, could have had 4th pick instead. If you're going to miss the playoffs, miss it by a country mile.

If I was Tallon, I'd be asking for a 2nd and Corrado in return to swap picks. If I'm the Canucks, I'm offering Jordan Schroeder.

If no trade can be made, Florida should still draft Reinhart. Maybe a trade can be made during the year. Plus smart player.

This would be interesting on both parts. However, I am a little curious as to why Q doesn't like Sharp. I would love to see Marleau and Boyle with the Indian Head, but I'm confused as to why Q does not like Sharp. If the trade goes through, it will be interesting. What about the KSS line? It will be curious to know what happens with Marleau, if anything does happen, that is.

Are there rumblings that Coach Q does not like Sharp? Or it more of trying to get a true 2nd line C. How about going after UFA C Olli Jokinen? But Hawks only have cap room for $2.5-$3M for him. Could just wait til the trade deadline to make a trade.

The other scenario I see is the Hawks signing Kane and Toews to extensions, which would eat up the cap space in future years. So I don't see the Hawks going after Marleau who just signed an expensive 3 year deal, unless the Sharks retain some salary. But with Saad getting a raise in a couple of years, not sure if this would be the most wise move.

To make more cap room, I'd sooner trade off Versteeg to the NYI for a pick. See if Zus would sign back for $1M again.

Isn't there a rule you can't trade your 1st year players? Thought I saw that somewhere recently? Could have read it wrong?

The biggest problem with Sharp is that he will give 10-12 goal in 6 games then you don't see him on the score sheet again for about 3-4 weeks. Great example was the playoffs and the Olympics. I can't stand that they have him playing on the point on the power play.


Jokinen........H3LL NO. Might as well keep Zeus playing on the 2nd line. Hawks don't need Boyle, already have 3 dmen that can move the puck. I think one way or another Kersteeg is gone.

They need to move Crawford and his $6 million a year contract.
 
There is no riff with Sharp and Q, that is not a reason why Sharp is being offered at all. Leddy is most certainly going to be moved, if the Marleau deal doesn't happen he will be moved to either Florida in some type of package to get the #1 pick, or I am hearing Edmonton may move a pick or forward to acquire him. Leddy is odd man out with the top 4 set, Rundblad was acquired and will be in the lineup next year, and they have the two youngsters who will be rotating in on D. Leddy at only $2.7 is very attractive to a lot of teams, he is the easiest piece to move, he wants more playing time and more power play time, he won't get that in Chicago with their top 4 set. So, if Tallon and the Hawks can get together on a deal for Leddy, the Hawks will take the best center available in the draft. If the Marleau deal goes through, they again get a center they want.

And the Hawks don't have and don't want Boyle. I think you misinterpreted my post. The Islanders own Boyles rights, Leddy would be moved to SJ to take Boyles spot/role. Hawks could offer Leddy who will be a great fit/upgrade in FL, their first round pick 27, and next years first. Or Leddy, 27 this year, and a prospect who can't crack the lineup full time like Morin. They already gave away two kids to FL who were NHL ready in Hayes & Olsen, those two stepped right into the lineup and produced very well. The Tallon/Hawks connection has produced a number of deals between the clubs already, I can see them easily getting together again to move the first to Chicago. The Hawks have the depth on the farm and Leddy to give the Panthers a very solid package that will help them now instead of FL drafting more kids that need time to develope.

I can't envision Florida trading that far back for anything less than Saad. Perhaps Leddy, Teravainen and a future first. But even then I don't think the value is there for the Panthers.

If Zeus is willing to come back for $1M again, then that's the best. Jokinen was just an option instead of taking on Marleau's huge contract and giving up 2 roster players for 1.

I don't know why Leddy would be moved. Can never have enough puck moving dmen.

Doesn't Crawford have a NTC of some sort?

Hawks came within one OT goal of going to the SCF, which they would have won. Seems like a lot of tinkering for a team that was almost a repeat champion.

Then why is Sharp being moved?

What's wrong with having Leddy in the 3rd pairing? Plus Oduya and Rozsival are UFAs after next season. I don't see the need to move this guy at all.

As for getting #1 overall? Why? Hawks have gotten good value out of their recent picks. Saad and Tervainen. See how Hartman does too. Just from Saad and Tervainen, you could pick duds in the next 2 years and still be okay, since Toews and Kane are still young.

Crawford has some sort of modified trade clause, (maybe just certain teams).

I also don't think they move Leddy. He's only 23 years old. I think they let Oduya play out his year that he has left and let him walk or they trade him at the deadline.

They are going to need to move a big contract this year or next, Crawford, Bickell, Sharp seem most likely.
