Hi everyone,

Hope you're all having a great day!

Yesterday I went to visit a collector who "had some hockey cards he wanted to get rid of".

I went through dozens of boxes of early 90's stuff (pro-set, premier...) and had the displeasure of telling him that the cards were not really desirable.

Then, I found them... two small boxes with "1955 Topps Hockey" written on them, and one large box reading "1954-55 Parkhurst Hockey".

They are complete sets, 60 for the Topps and 100 for the Parkhurst. Each card, though not in mint condition, is in a top-loader. Many of the cards are in excellent condition based on other vintage cards I have seen.

I also found a box which is a full set of 1955 Bowman Baseball - same deal, all cards in loaders and very well cared for considering they are over 60 years old.

Lastly, there was a box of old non-sport cards which included about 100 mini photos from a set called Topps Scoop, which is from 1954.

I will post some pictures when I have a chance to upload them this evening, but I'm wondering a couple of things:

a) are these better sold as complete sets, or broken up?
b) is there any point in grading these?
c) do you have any other tips for dealing with vintage cards?

Cheers!

:thanks:

Hi everyone,

Here are some scans of the cards... haven't done them all yet, but I intend to!

Very cool stuff!!!

Tip - Bring'em by my booth at Expo. I can help you figure out the best way to sell them and perhaps make you an offer as well.

It just depends if you want to get rid of the cards for profit the quickest or max out your profit. If looking to max out your profits then get the star cards graded if I'm really good shape. If their are any other cards that are in extremely good shape get them graded as well. Most people don't just decide to buy an expensive set as most will just buy singles and upgrade as they go on.

Dealt a ton back in my day. Splitting them up is going to get more return on the dollar. Try and find a few graded cards from those years and use them as a basis.

If you have some 55/56 Parkies in Ex or better I need 16 of them for my own set.

Yeah not bad at all! If they were to be graded I'd say 3 to 5...the bower RC may even get a 6.

Aside from the Bower I don't see anything up there higher than a 4. Mostly 1's to 3's.

But regardless, you have some epic cards...the 54 Howe and the 54 Banks.

And they are perfect just as they are!

Thanks for showing them and if you do want to sell them I'm interested in the 54 Ernie Banks and the 54 Gordie!

WOW what a find! Definitely get the key cards graded by PSA!

Thanks for sharing!

Because he mentioned there were some in the lot and you would be foolish to ignore the potential value of some of the rarer variations if you are looking for resale value
